Okay…honest review ahead. Nothing against the author, especially since they noted that there was some truth to the story, but I think this book just isn’t my cup of tea, and the sickeningly sweet & understanding MCs and unrealistic plot were the main reason why.
A big reason we love books is to be able to get away to a fantasy land, but this book took it too far.

I enjoyed the beginning of this book - the banter was cute and made me laugh. However, once they got together (less than 15% into the book) it was just too good to be true. It felt so unrealistic and honestly after so many cheesy lines, I was just like…gag me with a spoon

“He would gladly be her knight and fight for her until she saw his heart for what it truly was: completely and utterly in love with her.”

The Paris Soulmate is such a cute romance novel! I definitely was longing to visit Paris to see all the places mentioned. But more than that, I loved how the author wrote about chronic illness and many of the struggles that go along with it. Brooke Gilbert suffers from some autoimmune disorders herself, so the representation is accurate and gave this reader so much insight into the daily life of at least one individual.

The way that Colin truly cherished Christine made the romance in this book something to aspire to. He swept her off her feet literally and figuratively and it was so fun to watch the romance blossom throughout the book.

At the back of the book, the author included lists of movies mentioned throughout the book along with a Spotify playlist. I love those types of additions!

"A woman with autoimmune disorders & a "no dating policy." A mysterious, cocky British stranger. A dream trip to Paris. What could go wrong?
Reeling from the reality of turning 30 soon, Christine decides to take her bucket list trip. She has always dreamed of going back to Paris, but since being diagnosed with several rare autoimmune disorders, she never imagined she would get the chance to return.
Now she finds herself on her way to the city of love with an unexpected surprise. An extremely handsome British stranger seems to have mysteriously fallen onto her path.
Is it just a coincidence they are both traveling to the city of love at the same time? It all seems too good to be true."

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway and I thought it was fantastic. I loved the instant love and soulmates aspect. I was so afraid that once the deceit was unveiled that it would be a deal breaker so I’m glad it wasn’t. The only thing I would have hoped for was a proposal in Paris in the follow up chapter.

This was such a sweet romance and an enjoyable read! It’s a great debut novel and I’ll definitely be looking for the next books from this author. While the story takes place more or less over a week, the insta-love romance felt natural and believable. It was full of romance, secrets and a deep understanding of chronic diseases/disorders portrayed in a respectful way. This book really captured my heart since the first pages and the descriptions of Paris made me feel like I was right there with the main characters. It’s a fun, sweet, story that I recommend to anyone who is a big romance fan.

This book packed an emotional punch for sure. It’s still a cute romance, but as an individual with a chronic and debilitating autoimmune condition (and fear of travelling with said condition), this story hit home hard. I found Christine’s feelings and fears very relatable. It made me glad that my condition developed after I was married to my “one”. It would be so difficult to date with such medical challenges. The romance and chemistry in this story is beautifully done and there are some pretty great kisses. There is some bed sharing but no sex. There are fun and funny moments in the midst of the emotional and romantic. And a great tour of Paris sites, which was interesting to read. The characters were very engaging. I will admit that I did not at all expect the big surprise (which is revealed early). The dual POV was pretty essential for the story. It did feel a little strange that Christine’s POV was first person, while Colin’s POV was third person, but I can see how it worked for the story overall and kept the reader very engaged emotional with Christine, so it didn’t detract from my enjoyment at all. This was a really wonderful story and I recommend it.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Author/Publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.

The Paris Soulmate is a sweet rom-com by Brooke Gilbert, that shows us what it’s like to fall head-over-heels-over-logic in love in Paris (because what better city to fall in love in, than Paris). If you’re looking for a clean, magical rom-com, this one is for you (please read the trigger warnings in the book).

The story follows Christine and Colin (dual POV) as they embark on a trip to Paris. Christine is there to prove something to herself- though slowly but surely, we find that her intentions are not as apparent as we thought. Colin is there on a mysterious work trip. They meet in the airport before boarding their flight (while Christine is having an episode brought on by her auto-immune disorder), and share an instant connection. After some flirtation and a little help from some eager flight passengers and staff, they find themselves ready to explore Paris and their hearts.

I loved the depth of characters in this story, and the fact that we had many side characters who added so much to the storyline, but I was most drawn to Christine and her thoughts and feelings. The way she dealt with having an auto-immune disorder was a real representation of how it filters into various aspects of your life, consciously and subconsciously. The way she approached love and emotions felt like a true representation of a woman who is cautious because of her past. There was a depth to her thinking that drew me in and had me feeling for her and with her. While I found Colin absolutely charming, I found that his secret gave me a bit of an ick, though I would say that this is a case of personal icks, and I doubt it would land the same with anyone else.

The way Gilbert allowed us to visualise Paris, it truly felt like I was there. No need to Google for visual purposes. It felt so incredible and magical, seeing the city through the eyes of starry-eyed lovers. There were moments where I felt that the magic was slightly interrupted by thoughts being extensively rehashed, but in all, I felt that it didn’t take away from the magic of the storyline.

I honestly think this book was such a sweet romance. I loved that she had health issues and trust issues as it made me relate to her a bit more. Loved Christine and Colins connection aswel as they fit perfectly together.
