I’d say like a flat 2.80/5. Honestly it was interesting, but I was constantly getting lost. Like they speak in so many metaphors. I got kind of lost during their whole spiel in the bathroom scene when he finally reveals his face to her and many other times throughout the book. I also thought that the author could’ve gone way deeper in some lore, so that the reader wouldn’t be as confused. Just messy plot overall, but I wouldn’t be lying if I said it didn’t keep my interest. He was like so obsessed with her but they would physically harm each other and threaten to genuinely kill one another to where it wasn’t realistic of how they’re alive sometimes. But I do think you see the growth in both characters, the fmc from innocent to dark, and the mmc from dark to more caring. Also this book is actually like 90% sex so now I’m excited for some real plot. But for a dark smutty romance it def had some disturbing/kinky things but in very interesting ways. Like I wish we could’ve saw when Aero first saw Briony and got obsessed/ how he stalked her over the years. I’m not mad I read it at all tbh, it just felt like a very long book. I think if the author works on their execution a little more I would read more of their books.
Spoiler summary:
Briony is in a very religious church thing, and is doing well in the politics that she is in the running to be the new head of the church. Her enemy Saint is also in the running and suddenly starts being nice and befriending her. His father is apart of the higher ups. Briony starts getting messages from a stalker and he like breaks into her house and watches her sleep at night. This stalker is named Aero and wears a mask, which we end up finding out is bc he looks just like Saint and his father Callum Westwood, bc he is Cal’s bastard child. He broke away from the church since its lowks evil (he was raped by the bishop as a child) and is trying to get Briony to realize how horrible it is bc he sees that fire in her eyes. He like frames her for things to set everyone up to be exposed and they physically fight all the time, but she trusts him and ends up realizing her “devil side”. It’s a lot of back and forth drama with them and the church and they almost get fucked but Aero was always one step ahead and she ends up killing people to save him and they live happily ever after.
Thoughts:
Okay its actually unrealistic how many times she has like stabbed this man and he’s still alive
He’s legit making her throw knives at him with no prior practice and she’s somehow accurate enough to not kill him?
I’m confused they did not explain why he’s been stalking her most of her life and how she’s actually younger than she thought and has different parents.
Moments:
Jump right into stalkerness: “He nuzzles into me, running his nose up into my hair. He inhales my scent, his face rubbing over the back of my head as if deriving some sort of sick pleasure from the smell of my hair alone.”
He watches her sleep and cuts off some of her hair and rubs it on his neck
He stabs a guy in the hand he touched Briony with
Haha Saint (her academic rival who suddenly has interest in her) leans in to kiss her when he’s dropping her off and suddenly a brick shatters his windshield to stop it. Hmmmm wonder who did that

This has been compared to the Cat and Mouse Duet, but I think it shouldn’t be.
If you have religious trauma you may be able to relate to this book. I did not like the beginning. She has a stalker from the get go, no explanation on how long Aero had been watching her, it was like starting in the middle of the book.

This might be the most unhinged horror-y romance ever written. Everyone in this book needs three therapists, and I also need to go to the therapist. The people nearby may need to see a therapist.
Spice level: Mom, don't read this.
Anyway, five stars.

Wooooow! I am completely & utterly in love. 6 stars!! no 10 all day every day 🫠🥵 Aero is 😘🤌🏻 and Briony the badass that she is. Just pure perfection all of it. Mind your triggers bc this has it, all of it. If you don't love dirty, filthy degradation, serious toxic red flag type of love then don't do it. If you have an adversion towards religion being used & twisted then don't do it. But my God this was everything. I already want to listen to it all over again, and if you are trying to decide AUDIO is absolutely the way to go! The fucking emotion that Arden brings is heaven & hell all wrapped into one! I've seen people comparing Aero to Zade & such but lemme just say Aero is a league of his own. Don't get me wrong Daddy Zade is perfection all in his own too, but this is a different type of perfection. This is the darker dirtier side of perfection, the blissfully painful yet sensual toxic side of it. They are not alike but they are both Gods in their own leagues. This has plenty of scorching hot scenes & twisted plot. I loved everything about it, Jescie Hall is something else when it comes to this book & I can't get enough. It was beautifully twisted.

I can’t believe this author wants me to thirst over a guy that smells like leather and SULFUR. An ugly boy I can handle. A stinky boy?! You’ve all lost your minds. I’m out.
