Holy Crap!

This book was freaking amazing. GAH! Words actually fail me...

Before I jump into my review, I have to tell you that I am a music brat. What does that mean? I was surrounded by music my entire life. From traveling to DCI competitions since before I can remember to playing the violin from the 2nd grade to my high school graduation, music has always been a large part of my life. I absolutely love musicals and I even got to play in the orchestra my high school's annual musical my senior year. As much fun as that was... I still can't watch The Sound of Music without cringing. No told told me about the long ass rehearsals...

Why am I sharing this? Well, when I found out that Christina Lauren was going to sign at The Ripped Bodice this Sunday, I immediately went searching for a book to read. I remember hearing about Roomies around the blogosphere and once I read the synopsis I was all over it. Not going to lie, I struggled with it at the beginning. I was fighting off a reading slump because I had no desire to read. I fought through it. Kept going back to Holland and Calvin for the small amount of time my brain allowed me to read. Once it finally clicked and I was good to go, I finished 75% of it in a matter of hours. It was amazing!

As my first Christina Lauren book, Roomies knocked it out of the mother-effing ballpark. This book made me giggle-snort and bawl like a freaking baby. We're talking full on ugly cry from which there was no going back. Once we clicked, I didn't want Roomies to end. I was hooked. I loved watching Holland grow as an individual. She went from being comfortable in the shadows to a fully confident woman on the verge of tackling the publishing world. Calvin was no slouch, either. Through his moments of being absolutely oblivious, he too grew as a character who's dream is about to come true. Maybe not as much as Holland, but that doesn't minimize his progress at all. The only character I could not stand was Lulu... For obvious reasons...

Now that I've finally read a Christina Lauren book I need to pick up Beautiful Bastard. I don't know when, I just know it will happen. And hopefully soon.

Now I hope Roomies didn't sent me into a book hangover...

I received an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

Not my favorite Christina Lauren romance but it was good. I like the ones with more sexy banter like The Unhoneymooners and Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating.

3.5 stars

A cute story, pretty well written, reads fast and keeps moving.

I grabbed this book after seeing a ton of recommendations on social media so I didn't really know what it would be about. With that, I have to say, the title is not at all fitting and threw me a bit.

It's another story where I found myself screaming at the female lead for refusing to say what she was thinking. Not communicating is Much harder than telling the one you love what you are thinking. Maybe it would have helped if we understood why she had such trust issues. This distracted from the story a bit.

3.5 stars. I do recommend it to my friends who like Chicklit and stories about relationships in New York.

This one checked all the rom-com boxes for me. He had a main character who is struggling with how she sees her place in her world. It has a secret crush that most women can identify with. And it has a guy who shows vulnerability through the writing that makes me teary eyed. I know the writing is good for me when I have to go back and reread dialogue that I just read because I am caught up in the story moment.

Such a beautiful, precious book, with some really great characters. Jeff and Robert stole my heart forever.
But, is it weird that I want a whole book from Calvin's POV. I would like so much to take a peek into his music-and-Holland-flooded-brain. Or at least one teeny tiny epilogue.
Such a wonderful, fun story that had me laughing out loud and left me wanting for more.

oh man, this duo seriously can do no wrong. I loooved this book. But I am a huuuge fan of the fake dating/marriage of convenience trope, and that +Broadway…honey, say no more.

Christina and Lauren really come through. The chemistry between Holland and Calvin leaps off the page, and it is so amazing to see their relationship blossom. I love how they wrote Calvin specifically, because he goes from this kind of enigmatic busker to this really sweet amazing husband.

I love how they wrote him playing ludicrous, and how you can seriously almost hear it, and how it transfixed anyone who hears it as well.
