Another fun book from the Christina Lauren duo! I got into this book right away and listened to the whole audiobook in about 4 days. I found myself finding ways to listen other than when I'm in the car (the time when I do most of my audiobook listening) because I desperately wanted to know what happened with Calvin and Holland.
So cute! Just what I was in the mood for. I’ve been wanting to read Christina Lauren for so long now, and I’m glad I finally did!

I need to give Christina Lauren a break. One of my 5 stars of last year was a CL, but everything I have read recently has been a swing and a miss.

I always look forward to settling in to a CL novel. For me, this book had more of a contemporary romance than romcom feel as well as being a slow burn story and I enjoyed it a lot. It was a little sluggish to start with, but once we got the dynamics of the couple and their circumstances it rolled along quite nicely. It’s a tale of a marriage of convenience with one side, Holland, with a major crush on her guitar busker Calvin. When see sees a solution to both Calvin and her uncles problems, she jumps at the chance to help them both. Little does she know, that it wasn’t as simple as she first thought. I went on the roller coaster with Holland with her emotions and thoughts and it bought me to tears a few times. Calvin had been in the States for years with study and beyond, but he still had his thick (or is it tick) Irish accent, and I loved reading his lines trying my best to emulate him. I appreciated that their HEA wasn’t a simple fix but I did want more, I think we needed an epilogue to know what happened after the last chapter. Some things were left unanswered and I think a huge family reunion might have given me a complete sense of closure. I still recommend you give this one a go.

I had to drop one star because the end sucks.
The book was going great: two strangers have to marry so one can stay in the country and be a musical star in the theater. There's awkward first encounters, there's the "sleeping together in the same bed" trope that always hits just right, there's hot sex and cute love. ANd then there's angst and problems and they fall apart too much and it never gets as good as it was again.
It's a plot problem, though, the characters are round and great, the protagonist is amazing and complex and the whole story reads amazing until the last few chapters hit. What a shame.

3.5* I definitely didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first time I read it. In Roomjes we have Calvin and Holland in the subway station. Holland has enjoyed watching Calvin perform on his guitar and one day sparks up the courage to talk to him. A few days pass and Holland sees him again, but a loonie in the subway station pushes her onto the tracks. Holland wakes up receiving medical care only to find that Calvin was the one that called in the accident. At this point she did not know his name, only that she penned him Jack. So this mystery man goes out of his way to help her, but doesn’t give his name to the police? Sketchy.
Hollands uncle is the writer of Broadway’s top show at the moment, and they are in need of a new violinist. Holland pitches the idea of hiring a guitarist from the subway instead of an actual violinist.

Good book until the last 20%. It had me wanting to keep reading and craving the characters but they were still in the 3rd act breakup at 99% and it wrapped up too quickly to believe or enjoy.
