Another amazing book from Lucy. Good guy x bad girl and found family. This book was the perfect pairing to the first in the Knockemout series. I loved how this book built and expanded upon the world Lucy built in Things We Never Got Over. This one focuses on allowing yourself to be vulnerable and realising that it doesn’t have to be seen as a weakness to share this with others and can actually make you stronger. About bringing yourself back from the depths of darkness. I loved that it followed the same formula as the first, set in the same world, building on the characters and the crime sub-plot continued and linked to the original but was still unique, with different mcs, tropes, and themes.

Loved this book! I don’t mind it being dragged out and I think the slow burn is just so nice. I lowkey might prefer Nash over Knox?? Idk but I definitely did like Naomi better than Lina. Angelina is great and all but she was a grump sometimes (relatable though). Piper stole my head immediately and I loved getting to know not just Knox and Lina, but the whole squad more! Give me Sloan and Lucian NOW

I obviously expected copaganda with Nash’s role as sheriff, but it was quite heavy handed and the author’s positionality showed when Nash objected to Dilton pulling over an innocent Black couple but described them by their degrees and positions (as though the fact that they’re successful/accomplished/wealthy makes them less deserving of police harassment than “regular” Black people). Cop stuff aside, the length of the book makes it impossible for it not to be repetitive. No romance needs this many pages, murder plot or no murder plot. I’m torn because this wasn’t great but Lucian and Sloane are interesting enough that I feel curious enough to come back for the third book.
