Relectura. Simon no sabes cuánto te quiero.

Yet another banger. Emotional support book, road trip edition.
The plot felt disconnected but some of the lines were hilarious
Solid 4* read for me. I just wanted a little bit more!
I need to get my feelings sorted about this one. God, this was so hard to read! Certain parts made my heart hurt so much that I had to physically remove myself from the book. Fuck them and their inability to communicate with each other! And that cliffhanger!?! At least I'm glad Penelope keeps interupting Simon. Do we know when's the next book coming out? I thought this was going to be the last one! Now I'm stuck with this filler-chapter-feeling of a book and I can't deal. I just want them to talk about their problems! Please, Rainbow?! Am I asking for too much?!?
I enjoyed Wayward Son but I think that it does suffer a little from Middle Book Syndrome. I guess I just wanted more. I wanted to see more cute Simon and Baz moments, I wanted to see mages functioning in the Normal world, I wanted to see how The Chosen One copes with not being The Chosen One anymore. We didn't really see any of that.
Wayward Son also had the same issue I had with Carry On in that nothing much really happens for over 100 pages. The thing that bothered me the most though was the incessant hatred of anything and anyone that isn't a mage. I got so sick of Penny demeaning any magickal creature or Normal or literally anything that couldn't control magic. She was saying all kinds of awful things about vampires and I just wanted to shout, 'You do know that Baz is RIGHT. THERE???' It was so frustrating. And there isn't really any consequences for it. Yes, they get attacked or captured or whatever, but they're always saved, there's no real comeuppance for them. I hope this is explored more in the next novel because I'd really like them to see how elitist and oppressive they're being. All three of them, to be honest.
Despite all of this I did enjoy this book. Rainbow Rowell writes cute and funny characters. She writes characters that feel like real people. Her magic system is so interesting and new and I love it. The Quiet Zones in this were such a good idea and I would just love to know more. This is an easy, fun read, and I'm excited for the next book.

Alright, I'm just going to put all my thoughts down. This is a mini-review, I'm not covering everything. First off this book was such fun. It's one of my highly anticipated books of 2019 and I was just happy to read this book. Getting to read Simon and baz again was genuine really nice.
Warining: This will contain spoilers and they are not hidden. Proceed at your own risk.
Let's just start from the beginning and go through it all. Going into this book I knew that it was going to be the whole aftermath of Carry On and basically what the hero does after they defeat the bad guy and whatnot, but I really did not expect the first few chapters to be what they were.
All of the characters were trying to find what to do with themselves now since it didn't turn out how they expected. Simon's depressed, Baz has communication issues (Simon too), and Agatha is MIA. The whole thing with Simon's depression really got me in the beginning. I was just sad reading it because I wanted Simon and Baz to be happy(#terribleboyfriends literally). It was like that for the first few chapters and I just wasn't into it.
Next, I want to touch on the relationships. I feel like in Carry On we did get Penelope and Simon scenes but I think in this book their friendship was really showcased. Also, the relationship between Penny and Baz, its great, the two of them are so comfortable with each other now.
Penny and Baz's relationship throughout the whole book just made me so happy. I really feel they have grown so much over the last year and have become great friends.
Now, as for Simon and Baz's relationship, I have so much- I mean. Pretty much the whole book I was just frustrated. But, we've gotta have the miscommunication trope. It took literally the whole book for them to finally figure it out and they didn't really even figure it out (#thankspenny). Anyway, I feel the different POV's really showcased their love for each other but they could never find the words and It was frustrating at times.
Along with Simon and Baz's relationship, I want to highlight somethings that we did get out of the book. Now, don't get me wrong we definitely did not get the good Snowbaz that the fandom was hoping for but we did get cuddles in the back of the truck (that was definitely a favorite scene).
Moving on to the characters, I love Shepard. His character is just fun and I am very happy that he is now apart of the gang. Also a possible love interest for Penny (possibly, Agatha?).
Ha! Now that I know he's literally cursed I'm laughing at this quote. But, I'm really excited to see what will happen to/with him in the next book and what the whole 'curse' is about.
I love that we got more from Agatha during this book. Though she didn't have as much of a need as the trio she still was interesting. Everyone's character was quite distinct. I really enjoyed that. Since there are so many different POV's and I was usually listening to the audiobook, it was really nice to be able to easily differentiate between the characters quickly because of their personalities.
Finally, Baz. My boy. Baz was my favorite character from the start and that stayed true throughout Wayward Son (Shep comes at a close second but Baz has just killed it). I feel during this book we were able to see another side of Baz. Since the story had so much to do with Vampires we were really able to learn more about that side of him and see him in a new light.
It was so easy to envision Baz's outfits His Gay-Vampire vibe was really shown during this book. feel like he's always hidden himself and he just doesn't during this.
Alright, Finally I'm going to talk about the plot. The plot was definitely not as amazing as Carry On but that's okay. I still liked the adventure that they went on. It was really interesting to see America from their perspective. All of Nebraska was just great to read. I really couldn't tell what The Vampire King was planning on doing, and I wasn't crazy surprised when he turned on them but It was still a twist and I liked it. The plot was not bad, it just wasn't great. I feel like it was simply because this is the in-between book. By the end of the book, I realized that the plot wasn't that major and it was more of a build-up to the next book (which okay but I mean, ya know?) Not felt really resolved like it did in Carry on. That's my only complaint.
Overall, I will give this book 3.5. I enjoyed it, Rainbow Rowell has a nice witty writing style and It's just fun to read her books. Definitely excited to get another Simon Snow book in the future!

Penelope sighs, leaning over the seat, and Baz holds his wand to her mouth. "Kiss it better!" "Basil, that's a family spell!" "Hush," He says, kissing her cheek. He wipes the blood from her mouth with his sleeve. His arm is shaking. "You okay?"

"You should be wearing your cross." "We've been through this-I'd rather risk a bite." His arms tighten. It's a bit hard for me to breathe. "I would never," he says. "I know."
I'd give him all that I am. I'd give him all that I was. I'd open up a vein.

"Completely. I'm the most basic bitch possible."

Go ahead and shoot me. This isn't my favorite shirt.
Baz is standing in front of a full-length mirror, wearing-I swear to Merlin-a flowered suit. It's some slick material, dark blue with blood-red roses. With a white shirt. No-a light pink shirt.

Love a road trip book!
This book was a bit of a let down for me, I enjoyed the first in this series for it's fun takes on HP and I liked the sass and adventures and romance. This book felt to me like a poor follow up where the happy-ever-after is collapsing and the romance is dying. I really didn't like the continued "does he like me or not?" moments between Simon and Baz, I think they were over done and way too much.
This story follows Simon, Baz and Penelope as they head over to the USA. It has a very contemporary feeling and although they do have magic, wings and vampires to contend with, I would say this reads much more like a contemporary book than a fantasy. I personally found it all a bit too fluffy and dull, but it was a very easy listen on audio so I did finish it up.
Overall, I think the first one was better and I don't think that I would read more in this particular world after this story. It was only really the last third of the book with the big vampire battles which actually interested me most, and the rest of it was too melodramatic for my liking. 2*s - it was ok.
