This was cute and fluffy. I like Sawako a lot and LOVE how positive she is. Yoshida and Yano are cool too, and I like their friendship dynamic with Sawako. Kazehaya is a nice character, but I feel like he's a "too good to be true" shoujo protagonist. Despite that, he's an overwhelmingly positive influence for Sawako and I enjoy their interactions.

I'll probably read the next volume just to see where the story goes now that a lot of the cast is established, but I'm not 100% committed to the series. That being said, this was a nice start and I recommend people give it a shot if they're looking for a cute, fluffy shoujo recommendation.

Super cute. This was very different than I expected it to be.

For some reason this reminded me of Komi Can't Communicate. It's similar in the way that the female protagonist is a really nice girl that wants to make friends but keep getting misunderstood. Unlike Komi who is worshipped by the class and has followers, Sawako is ostracized due to the misunderstandings. I'm really curious to see where this goes :)

4.5/5.0: The book opens with our main girl, Sawako- a high schooler whose long, black hair, uneasy smile, and quiet behavior trigger fear in her classmates. She reminds them of Sadako, the main character of the horror series The Ring, which has been her nickname since elementary school. Rumors are running around saying that Sawako can talk to ghosts and that she curses you with bad luck if you look into her eyes more than three times. But she can't see ghosts and is extremely apologetic about it. She only wants to fit in and make her peers happy. Her motto is, "Do one good deed each day." Sawako's goal in life is to be someone no one fears, like Kazehaya-kun. Sawako adores Kazehaya’s sociability and kindness- "Cheerful... Eloquent... Everyone gathers around him... He is a man capable of attracting many people around him. The complete polar opposite of myself.”

Kimi ni Todoke is one of the first manga series I’ve picked up, and now that I’m back after reading the entire series, I know that it’s one of my favorites. The unassuming cover of this book hides the rollercoaster underneath (whether it be a bad or good one). Although it may stretch out sometimes, it still grips you into the story. If you can practice patience, I don’t think you’ll feel you’ve wasted your time. If you like romcoms and want to learn more about these two, then pick this series up.
