This is a campfire tale that would not be out of place in a "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" book. It would have made a better short story than it does a novel.

3 stars for this debut novel of terror in the Kentucky woods by budding horror novelist Jenny Kiefer. An extra star, as always, for the the freshman offering.
Four persons go on a hiking expedition in a section of the Kentucky woods that all the locals (well, one waitress at the greasy spoon diner, but she gave a LOT of warnings) caution them to avoid - most folks who enter the woods never come back out again. Hmmm.
They are looking for an untouched, unclimbed rockface, that appears on Clay's electronic equipment, but somehow doesn't appear on any of the paper maps or charts. Hmmm. As they enter the woods, the plant expert among them notices that there's a whole bunch of poisonous species of plants and mushrooms growing together where they shouldn't. Hmmm. The expert climber, Dylan, has a premonition of Clay chasing them around with a machete. That couldn't happen, could it? Nah, what a silly idea!
Any one who still wants to continue into these woods deserves to get eaten by the ghosts that live there. My only disappointment in the book was in the blurb, which practically gives away the entire story, like the crappy movie previews that show you the entire plot in the preview.
Anyway, an enjoyable horror story with enough backstory on the ghosts, and gory bits and pieces, to satisfy my reading needs. Kudos to the author!
