better read the ruins by Scott Smith, at least his characters have some personality. I don't even want to roast this book, it's just such a mediocre book with dull characters and zero personality. It feels like reading some sort of retelling from me LOL (but without personality). Bland, dull, boring, bot interesting. It was getting me into a reading slump. Clearly I would not recommend this book .

Nice and suspenseful solid haunting novel but wasnt super impressive … also if horror authors are going to discuss skeletons so much they really should figure out how they work I don’t care how strong she was Dylan can’t break carpals with her bare hands especially from pushing back on the ground wild man

This was… pretty terrible, actually. Flat characters. Cliche horror tropes. Mediocre to sometimes cringey writing. I never really cared about any of the underdeveloped characters, so I didn’t particularly care when they started dying. And the increasing number of hungry, murderous ghosts throughout the story were just too campy for me to take seriously. I’m especially disappointed because the opening chapter, with its mutilated corpses and bizarre mysteries, was so strong. The narrative didn’t keep that momentum, though, and by the end, I was rolling my eyes at all the cheap guts and gore that never amounted to a real scare. I was hoping for something comparable to “Briardark,” but “This Wretched Valley” ultimately felt more like a budget slasher film with bad acting.

This was a gory and tense book! A group of friends take an unforgettable trip into the Kentucky wilderness for a climbing and research trip that they never return from. This was the author's debut novel and it had a lot going on. Maybe a little too much at once, but it ultimately kept me reading and interested. The setting was spooky and just bizarre. The writing was a bit repetitive at times. The characters were entertaining enough, but I didn't really grow attached to any of them.
I listened to the audiobook as well as read along with the kindle edition. I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook and thought she did a great job. I hope the author continues to write and look forward to more of her work!
