loooooved. Great spooky vibes to end summer. read/listened to this on the plane otw to Yosemite which was funny timing.

I love horror that has to do with actual places being the Big Bad, and this delivered. There's other forces at work, too, which was okay, but I loved how sinister the earth was in this story. Great read!

I do recommend actually reading it versus listening to it, though. Just gets a little confusing with one narrator and multiple POVs.

This book was something (I say that a lot, lol). It was a kind of easy, kind of quick read. Kind of well written, but not great. What was going on was obvious -
the land/forest being the reason for the events.
The characters were flat. I didn't hate them, but nothing really had me invested in them. I was more invested in whether or not the dog survives (they do). Some of the gore was good, some of the body horror was good. The only great thing about the book was Clay's death and how it happened. The first death is at like, 60% and then there was nothing that really made you want to go forward. You can tell this was a debut, and that it was okay. Just okay.

A horrifyingly gruesome fantasy novel set in the backwoods of Kentucky. Clay is a geologist who thinks he has discovered an untouched cliff face in rural Kentucky. He convinces his friend Dylan, a semi-professional rock climber, her boyfriend Luke, and his research assistant Sylvia to accompany him into the woods to document his find. Seven months later three bodies are found just off the highway in various stages of decay and mutilation. What happened to the foursome and where is Dylan? Did she murder her friends or is there something evil that lives in the valley?

If you want a horror book that gives you the emotional reaction of eating a ham sandwich, this is the one. Neither great nor horrible, a feeling of “well I guess that’s done” upon completion.
