Wilson knows how to craft a robot story. Deeply conceived and carefully plotted, the story draws you in and, in the greatest traditions of speculative fiction, really makes you wonder if all this could be true.
I can’t finish the story is just too boring for me. I am not interested at all in theses characters.

I don't really know how to talk about this book. It's a little bit steampunk but it's clockwork instead of steampunk. Clockwork robots with souls and maybe a little bit of when technology gets so advanced can you tell it apart from magic?
But it's got a lot of history. There's a dual timeline going on, which I think the author handled extremely well. You've got the present day, but also Tzarist Russia and Georgian England and the East India Company wars in India and it's good. Really good.
I'm normally reading multiple books at the same time, but this one had me captivated. I even got an email that a book that I had put on hold at the library was now available for me to download, and I'd been waiting for that book for a while because it was the last book in a series, and I still kept reading this. I felt a real sense of history while I was reading it, like these characters were old. So old. And it's hard to convey that in writing.
So yeah. This book has given me book hangover. I don't know how to describe it other than to say I really enjoyed it and I think you should read it if you like clockwork and fantasy and history.

I really hope there is a sequel some day! I want to see how June, Peter, and Elena move forward.
Steampunky robots from the past! Fun diversion for a sick day, but it's likely not a book I'll ponder upon.

Think this one wasn't for me. It seemed like there was a large focus on getting from A to B with various action sequences. The historical flashbacks were somewhat helpful, but the character development felt a little flat at times. Would definitely like more mechanical details and background, though sadly it doesn't seem to be part of a series.
