Oikein sellainen viihdyttävä kriittisen lukemisen kokemus. Nokkelasanainen, taitava kirjailija, jonka etuoikeudet ja muut kommervenkit todella kannattaa tiedostaa, kun tätä lukee. :-)

When I first started this book, it was very captivating but about half way through I grew very bored. Finally toward the end, I skipped all the way to the end and don't feel a darn bit guilty about it.

Quite liked it, especially the food stories from Italy always made me hungry... ;-) I was not too keen on the spiritual stuff in the end, though...

Natalie gave me this book for Christmas, and I immediately read the first third that very same night. I absolutely fell in love with it. However, soon thereafter I got an influx of library books I'd put on hold, and started reading them so as to return them on time(ish). As a result, it took me until this weekend to finally finish the book. I would lament over the wasted time, but having read the middle section on "India," I know that's silly. I forgive myself and release my guilt. :)

I know one friend in particular who would probably have a heart attack if she heard my "heresy," but I have to be honest: reading this book gave me a whole new perspective on who Jesus may have been & his similarities to other holy/spiritual people throughout time and around the world. I'm not saying Liz Gilbert came out and talked about this directly! But my own brain drew some parallels...which coincided oddly (mysterious workings of the universe??) with this past Sunday's sermon focusing on the general history, similarities, and differences of the world's major religions. Again--my brain making the connections. This book has really gotten me thinking. And if I weren't already a believer in the power of meditation, I would be now!!

I also enjoyed the story aspects of this book: Liz telling her story of her own journey through the pain of divorce and beyond. I loved the "Indonesia" section, both for the travel aspects as well as the human stories and the romance. My oh my! :)

This book was just okay. Read it for a book club and most of us found the author to be a little "me, me, me." I did like it better with each section.

Liz Gilbert’s life was a mess. She wanted a divorce, she fought off and on with her lover and she just wanted to go away. And go away she did to the three I’s. Italy, India and Indonesia. She found food and friends in Italy. She found the love of God in an Ashram in India and she found herself in Bali, Indonesia.

Liz’s brave narrative is humorous and very informative. I found her descriptions of various meditations and the histories of the countries she visited to be very interesting. The people she met on her journey are friends for life and gave her very wise advice. I envy her guts to take off to the unknown and spend a year abroad. I wish I had the means to do that myself.

A good summer read.

This book was the perfect book for the season of life I am in now. Elizabeth’s journey of introspection and finding peace and balance was inspirational. There are many moments in this book that are quotable and utterly applicable to the new perspective I have on life. I am so happy my friends recommended this book.

All in all this was an ok book. I couldnt decide if I loved or hated this book. One minute I was into it then the next I wasnt sure if I wanted to finish it. I ended up finishing the book because there were some really good parts.
