Second read: Hiaasen is what I call my “palate cleanser”. To me, he has a familiar pattern, witty characters, and a love for the outdoors - what’s not to like?

First read: having read bad monkey first (was not a fan), I was a little hesitant picking up nature girl, but I am so glad I did. full of wit, humor, and some twists, the character storylines come together seemlessly and it almost makes the everglades an appealing place to go live... almost.

Quirky characters and wacky plot. Generally a fun book and was a good book to read while at the hospital this week.

Hiaasen does a great job at creating kooky characters. As in all of the Hiaasen books I've ever read the Florida setting is vividly described and makes you feel like you're there.

I wouldn't recommend this to everyone-too much swearing.

Summary: Honey Santana, the bipolar, self-proclaimed "queen of lost causes," has plans to give Boyd Shreave and his mistress a lesson in civility, unaware that she is being followed by her obsessed ex-employer and her one-time drug runner ex-husband.

Funny, enjoyable read.

Wacky and funny, although I almost stopped reading because I hated the Louis character so much.

Via audiobook. At first I wasn’t a fan of the narrator but I got used to her. Also I don’t think it’s fair to take away from a book review based on the narrator. But anyway I really liked this book . I’m not surprised tho I always like hiaasens. They’re just fun books. This one wasn’t my favorite of his but I still liked the characters and the storytelling

Reading this book was like watching an expert play Zelda- almost every object mentioned gets used for the adventurous journey. The pace is easy to handle for those of us with self detected ADHD- I couldn't put it down.

I've long wondered about Carl Hiaasen's novels. I really enjoyed Hoot, his juvenile literature book about a boy, some owls, and a pancake house set in Florida. He has such GREAT titles for his books, I was sure I would love them. This one wasn't the best. I really didn't like any of the characters which always makes it harder for me to embrace a book. I am willing to try another one... possible Basketcase or Sick Puppy. (again, who can resist such titles).

Any book with this sentence:

As usual he deflected both blame and responsibility; cruel chance had imbedded him here--stranded on a scraggly island with a psychotic divorcee', an increasingly unresponsive girlfriend, and a half-barbecued cock.

has got to be entertaining and this was. When the annoying guy tasers himself in the groin, it was a laugh out loud moment.

Irreverent and funny. Florida! About what I expected from the author. A fun read.
