This is a remarkable achievement in narrative nonfiction. The events of a corporate buyout should be boring, even torturous, to read about. Instead, this book reads like a fictional thriller.

I knew it was a good book when I found myself rooting for people who, politically, I should disdain.

DID NOT FINISH
slow-paced

Didn't finish. Incredibly dull. Why would anyone read a book about a takeover of a mid-sized company? Yawn.

A rare period book that remains relevant 30 years later - a phenomenal trip down '80s Wall Street told through one its most important events. The fascinating narrative style puts you right in the middle of the action. The character sketches are great, too - you can feel Ross Johnson's jovial nature and Henry Kravis's steely tone just flying off the pages.

The book can get a little tough to follow at times - I will admit that I didn't care too much if I didn't understand the technicalities of the financing models - bridge loans, etc. - but this is only in spots; the bigger headache is the list of characters! Great read overall, though. Definitely recommended.

60% really good content and a great insight into business and M&A strategy, 40% filler and character profiling

Not only boring but repetitive to the point when it becomes unreadable...
