Heartwarming but not sappy, comforting but not dismissive of sadness/harm. A group of sapient aliens (almost no humans in sight) are stuck on an unremarkable planet that is the space equivalent of a truck stop. Despite their immense differences, they get to know each other and connect, and work together in a crisis. This is the last Becky Chambers I had on my TBR before I've read all of her books. Can't wait until she has a new one out! #CozySciFi

“You don’t want to… That’s it. That’s all it ever needs to be.” 🤍

Becky Chambers does it again with this book in the Wayfarer series. My friend wanted to read this for a book club, and I was a bit nervous to read this one before 2 and 3, but since you technically can read them out of order I gave it a go, and still loved it and was able to understand it!! (Though I had read book 1 a while back, which probably helped). This story offers a beautifully diverse cast of characters, brilliantly layered social commentary, and still overall gives you that wholesome, happy feeling. I loved the different points of view, and think that was really crucial especially since we are navigating the thoughts and social norms of different species. Had a bit of a slow part, but I just loved it the more I kept going it was so sweet and wonderful. Definitely would recommend (and may come back to this after getting to 2 and 3 on my own). I’ll be thinking about the themes of this book for a long time.
