Whenever she was short of money, Anaïs Nin would write erotica for a particular anonymous customer introduced to her by Henry Miller at a dollar a page. He (she?) wasn't fond of flowery writing, just the facts, ma'am. Partially autobiographical and partially fevered imagination, these are some of those stories which helped keep her in the black. I wanted to give it all the stars. I wanted to give it less stars. Not for the prudish and definitely NSFW.
not for the prudish or faint of heart.
written by a woman in the 1940s, not particularly a time well known for sexual liberation. it has the flowery prose of classic literature, the delicacy of a woman, and the filth of real erotica. what a fun treat to read. i can’t wait to pick up more anaïs nin.

Erotica??? More like pedophilia, incest, genital mutilation, and many other disturbing stories!!! Was trying to read this to get into Anaïs Nin before reading her diaries but this truly spooked me. Would have loved an index of which ones are deeply fucked up and reprehensible and which are safe for human eyes so I could enjoy these

Graphic descriptions of pedophilia and incest/molesting of children within just the first nine pages.

A book you should plunge in and out of as the whim takes you, some parts are hard, some soft and yielding.
Sure, it's well written and rendered, and I do love some good erotica, but many of these are entirely beyond my comfort. Frankly, I really couldn't make it past the sex with children before the whole lot was ruined for me, and that's like the second story.
The whole holding-a-light-to-our-darkness thing can be really valuable and powerful, but I'm just not down for stories of incest, rape, paedophilia/hebephilia, and on and on and on.

dark
This is. Dark and twisted set of erotica stories, some more so than others, but a definite one to avoid if you have any possible TW reaction. (Not gonna list them all since the list would honestly be longer than the book) maybe I’ll try a diary of Nin in the future, but quite a few in this collection were too much for me.
