Admittedly, I don’t read a lot of poetry, but I picked this up to satisfy a spot on my summer book bingo card. I knew Amanda Gorman from her reading at Biden’s inauguration (which was probably my favorite poem in the whole book). She is undoubtedly a talented writer, but I only connected with maybe 1/3 of the poems in the book - though those I did connect with were very poignant.

This was a beautiful and bittersweet compilation of poems. There's no way my words could so it justice. As with most poetry, I found I wasn't quite smart enough for a lot of them, but this was enjoyable nonetheless.

I would have liked this more if I listened to her reading the poems.

Unfortunately, I didn’t research the book enough to know it was fully centered around 2020/COVID. Not my cup of tea.

Beautiful and intelligent composition.

Will continue to read over and over. I felt as if Gorman was able to put into words so many of my emotions about the last five years. I hope it becomes required reading at some point, her words are so powerful and her construction of poetry so thoughtful. Could not recommend enough!

Just not my type of poetry - the discussions of COVID weren't what I wanted to read currently
