Amanda Gorman is a brilliant young poet and I have great admiration for her brilliance with words. I have great admiration for creative authors and it is quite evident Ms Gorman has a very high verbal IQ. Poetry is a bit out of my comfort zone but enjoyed this collection of poems. I really appreciated how she could use words so cleverly. I really had to focus to catch all of the cleverness

Scars are the brightest parts of us

We are no prophet
We are no profit

Mend their amens

The future isn’t attained
It is atoned
Until it is at one

Meaningful morn we mourn and mend

What “just is” is not always justice

Auditory processing… I’d probably say it was an early phonology disorder

I am glad for this to be the first book I’ve finished in this new year. It is a valuable work. One that I am eager for my children and grandchildren to know one day.

I loved everything about this book: the poems themselves, the creative use of the different typefaces, the way the words were positioned on the page! I also appreciated all the footnotes and the notes in the back of the book. A beautiful book

DID NOT FINISH: 24%

I didn't realize the poems would be about the pandemic, and that's not the vibe I want to be reading in 2025

A beautiful collection of poetry that captures a difficult time in our recent history. A global pandemic, loneliness, isolation, uncertainty, and movements for change. Brings so many emotions forward. At times too sad to remember, but remember we must, for there is light and hope that emerges from such dark times. Bottle these poems up and keep them close.

I cried, I smiled, I remembered how shitty 2020 was.

Poetry is hard for me but this was worth it. Read slowly. Amanda Gorman is a brilliant and beautiful poet.
