Poignant and profoundly thought provoking.

After finally finishing this book, I have some thoughts. I love Amanda Gorman's writing style- especially her exploration of words and references to other works. I liked how the book was divided into parts, as well.

5 stars because it’s Amanda Fucking Gorman and I adore her and her poetry. But I found myself rolling my eyes [in Indigenous] at how… patriotic? Is “liberal simp” a thing?… this book felt. I mean the inauguration poem sorta had to rally ‘round the flag, I get it. Anyway. I still am in awe of her creative prowess and word play and look forward to reading more of her poetry. Will leave you with these lines I had to underline from Cordage, or Atonement: “Poetry is its own prayer,/The closest words come to will.” Ugh - I die! Worth all 5 stars right there.

I read along while listening to the author read her own poetry because poetry has always been harder for me to comprehend. I feel like this was the way poetry is meant to be experienced. Listening to the author’s meaning and passion in their voice. ❤️

it was a little underwhelming for me based on all of the hype around this book and author

Comparing the fact we could not go in pubs during the Covid with the trauma of the Shoah.... Touch grass, Amanda.
