Amanda Gorman is so incredibly talented. I loved listening to her read/perform her timely pieces on the pandemic, loss and grief and overcoming.
emotional hopeful reflective relaxing medium-paced

The format of some of her poems was sometimes completely unfamiliar to me, and it was exciting exploring this new (at least new to me) style!
Raw, emotional, conceptual, artistic… definitely recommend.

not for me. i appreciate the political nature of this but it just didn’t hold my attention at all. too much covid, not enough detail to feel like it was well written. almost dnfed at the “roses are red” poem

I’m not a big poetry person and I’ve never written a review but Amanda Gorman’s work affects me and speaks to me like nothing else. Absolutely incredible- I just finished five minutes ago and am already planning on rereading, analyzing, and annotating tomorrow morning. So refreshing to hear from a young voice who so masterfully writes about our collective experience through the pandemic, racial injustice and Black history and experiences, our generation’s relationship with climate change… I could go on and on. I am so excited to follow Amanda’s career and new work in years to come.

The poetry conveys the authors deep felt emotional experience with the perfect words.
I enjoyed the tidbits explaining the history of selecte words and the bringing of past to present.

I love her mix of language lesson, racial commentary, pandemic inference and poetry. She is an amazing writer/poet/historian.

Probably 4.5 because the writing really is great

Amanda Gorman has an amazing gift of being able to marry emotion and imagery as it occurs in a specific point in time. I also love the way she incorporates history with current events and leaves you thinking what part you play in all of it. Each page a call to action. It’s lovely and thought provoking.

I don't read poetry. But I was offered that book. I am not a native English speaker. I took my time, reading the poems one by one, out loud, taking my time and I working on my pronunciation. And I could hear the magic of the words singing.
