This was very good, and especially interesting as somebody who knows very little about Islam and the Qur'an. I enjoyed learning several of the stories from that book, and how Lamya related them to her life and the challenges she was facing.
There was less discussion about gender than I expected (hardly any tbh), it was more focused on Lamya's queerness as regards sexuality, and on her Muslim practices.

this book is not for everyone, but it was for me. this is exactly the book I needed to see myself in islam and continue on my revert journey, especially after facing a setback just days before i found this book. i really feel like it was sent to me at the perfect time alhamdulillah. that being said, I don't agree with all of her takes on the quran but the idea behind them of using religion as an aid to figure out who you are is something that deeply resonated with me

This book is amazing. It’s everything a memoir should be and more. It is so well written, and the vulnerability just pulls the reader right in. I love the analysis of the Quran and relating it to the author‘s life. I love the despair and the hope and the truth. I borrowed it from the library, but I will be buying it and reading it again

I multiple favorite moments from the book, but the ending of the book stands out to me. It’s relatable, emotionally reflective and kind. The book is a great option for those who want a perspective into immigration, LGBTQ+ issues, racial and religious discrimination, and intersectionality. The author was very good at sharing their experience and perspective on these issues (many are relatable to anyone who shares these backgrounds or identities) while also challenging patriarchy and misogyny in her culture and religion. I appreciate her fresh take and spin with interpretation of her religion, questioning it to show how one queer Muslim woman sees the Quran while grinding against patriarchy. This book is also relatable for those involved in advocacy and politics, and shares relatable anecdotes of the struggles of queer dating.
