Absolutely loved it, I shed some tears, chuckled, and genuinely enjoyed the reading.

What a powerful book. I wish the ending included her telling her family and really owning her queerness. It makes me sad that ultimately, there were still parts that are hidden.

This memoir is about Lamya’s lifelong reconciliation of her culture and religion with her Queer identity. Each chapter is grounded by a story from the Quran which reflects her own personal experience and growth.

I really took my time with this one and am glad I did. Having been raised Baptist, I grew up with the same stories as Lamya. I dissected and grappled with them in much the same way she does. And though, unlike her, I ultimately turned away from religion, these stories are still a huge part of me. So I was deeply moved by her interpretation of them and the way she folded them into her personal ideology and Queerness.

This memoir is so full of hope and perseverance. In these dark times especially, we could all use a bit of that.
