This was beautiful written, and I loved the audiobook narrator. It's given me a lot to think about, particularly the last two sections.

oh my. this is probably my new favorite memoir I've read. lamya h is an incredibly skilled writer and hijab butch blues is a knockout debut. I'm not muslim and, before this, only had a passing knowledge of the faith, but this memoir introduced me to so many concepts and taught me so many stories in a way that was approachable and emotionally charged. I was moved by lamya's relationship with their faith despite the fact that I don't share it. this book was funny and vulnerable and heartfelt. modern required reading, in my opinion. I would recommend this to everyone, but especially anyone who wants to learn more about how queerness and religion can interact and enhance each other. I'm going to be thinking about this book for a good long while.
