WOW. I could not have asked for a better first comic, genuinely. The entire thing was engaging, AND the end made me emotional — I was skeptical when Marc started talking about “letting go” of Jake and Steven (because uhhh no? That is not what he needs to do?) but the realizations he made in the final part of the story had me teary eyed, truly. It was such a beautiful journey and look into Marc’s brain. I enjoyed how the story both was and wasn’t an “origin story” — knowing Moon Knight’s origin going into the book wasn’t a disservice at all, but the way they reveal the truth only in the second half of the book, the past converging with the present, was SO cool, and it would be a really good starting point for someone who knows nothing about the character. It’s not written like one, but it could certainly read like a great twist if you’re going in blind.
Additionally, the entire middle part of this book felt like repeatedly waking up from a nightmare and going “thank goodness, it was only a dream” only to realize that you are now trapped in an entirely different and arguably worse nightmare. Over and over. It was really well done. The art styles switching between alters (/realities) was also really cool, but my favorite was the main reality art style used throughout most of the book. The kind of “sketch”-y feeling with the rough inking was really cool, I’ll definitely look into more of Smallwood’s work.

This was my first time reading a Moon Knight series. I’ve always known about him and he’s been around in some other stories I’ve read but he’s just been A Guy. So it was a treat seeing him opened up from the inside out and really poked at as a character. And Character is the word here. I wasn’t expecting a more character driven and action-lite story but it certainly was. Usually I’d have balked at that but the story was so good I didn’t mind much. (But I will admit the 4 stars is due to the action. I’m sorry but it coulda used just a toooouuuch more face punching!)
The art was wonderful, love that scratchy look. And the different artists used for the different personalities was a great touch. Lemire is one of my favs and he was working his usual magic here. He really handled the DID stuff with great care, never making it a gimmick. Just a great overall book.

I became a fan instantly when I watched the first season of Moon Knight 2 years ago.
And after reading this my love towards this troubled super hero multiplied
To be honest, it was quite confusing at times but the artwork and the plot was worth every minute spent on it.
I love you Mark
I love you Steven
I love you Jake
I love you Moon Knight
I never thought I would enjoy Comics/ Graphic novels, but moving forward I will be reading more of them.

The journey we went through in this comic is weird, crazy and epic!
I absolutely loved the story and how the writer represents and deals with Mark Spencer's mental health issues. The art is amazing and switching between unique styles was brilliant!

So you're telling me a moon made this knight?
Phenomenal story, amazing art. Just a great comic book.

I had been sitting on this graphic novel for months. I had enjoyed the television series on Disney Plus, but I had no idea if that would be the same enjoyment I would get when reading an actual comic book featuring the character of Moon Knight.
Thank god for Jeff Lemire! He is a talented comic book writer and his take on the vigilante Marvel character is so refreshing. The story might fall apart a bit towards the end, but it kept me engaged thanks to Lemire's thoughtful depiction of mental illness and his devotion in getting Moon Knight's emotional journey right.
I had a good time reading this and I think that said it all.
