Holy crap, I finally ran out of Dresden Files. AND I've watched all the shows on Hulu. What am I going to do with myself??
Seriously, these were fun, clever, consistent yet fresh, and sparing on the sex scenes, which was a nice change of pace in this genre. And after 6 or 8 of them the pacing got better, i.e. not just making things increasingly scary and more impossible so that we can all be relieved and impressed when the world doesn't end.
My only other complaint is I wish there wasn't an author photo in the back. I really tried to picture Dresden as the guy in the SciFi series, but I kept picturing a guy who looked more like the author... and I'd rather he didn't. The end.

The writing is amazing. I don't mean the story but the words chosen by the author. They weave together beautifully. It really encapsulates the unwavering hope that Harry keeps for people even after everything he's seen. The story itself isn't awful but certainly doesn't reach the heights of other entries. Also,
the gatekeeper has Darth Vader vibes. I wonder if he's related to Harry.

It does contain my favorite
plot twist of the whole series. I was practically yelling at the author because of how suddenly he had objectified Luccio in the last few books. Revealing that she had her mind twisted into exactly what Harry desired was perfect. Although I'm not sure if Butcher had thought of that when he first introduced the plotline. Anyways, I hope Harry takes this lesson to heart.

Dresden fatigue is setting in. This is a great installment, our first kinda look at the black council, there’s family drama and war and vampires, but also… the descriptions of women. Jesus help me and help Dresden because I cannot read another objectifying sentence right now. I may need a buffer book between this and the next.

That aside, enjoyed this installment. Dresden’s complex web of friendships, rivalries, and relationships continue to propel the plot in a really engaging way. It’s also cool to see his former adventures pay dividends, as council member and general supernatural folk treat Dresden with a respect and fear he finds surprising.

Loved this one. It felt a little different than previous volumes... Less smash and grab and more well thought out investigating from Dresden; our little wizard is really growing up! I had guessed who the baddies were long before it was revealed, but rather than feeling like that made it predictable (I really don't think it was) it just made me feel smart. It's always nice when a mystery type plot makes you feel that way. There are only two more to go in the series (two more released as of now at least), and while I have been plowing through these with the intent to catch up and finish them all, now I'm starting to feel a little sad. I've really grown attached to all of these characters and to Dresden's world. It's going to feel weird to be all out of new Dresden! I won't have to wait a super long time for a new entry in the series... But still. I'll miss my Dresden when I'm done with the last two. Awesome series.
