It was a lot slower pace than I was expecting, which was why it took me so long, but this was a very good read! The worldbuilding was great and did a good job of conveying messages about our world too.
There was a lot of mystery and pleanty of plot twists, which could get confusing at times but I mostly enjoyed. You never exactly knew what was the truth until the end.
I like how the gory  reality wasn't shyed away from, it really helped tell the story effectively and made it more compelling.
Also the romance was excellent, although it is primarily a story about taking down the patriarchy, the queer romance is a definite bonus I am happy to have!

The pacing was a little too fast for my taste and while the main character was very lovable and relatable i did have my issues with the side characters. The big plot twist wasn't something I particularly liked or cared for, but i did not see it coming so there's that.

Overall a quick fun read, would recommend but probably won't reread it myself.

The concept of the book definitely spoke to me and I'm so sad I didn't love it! I think this book would be great for someone's first venture into fairytale adaptations who is looking for a relatively fast paced and quick read.

The main issue for me is Bayron did a lot of telling, not showing. I realize this is why I didn't connect with Sophia. Other characters told me she was in love, first with Erin and then suddenly with Constance, and they told me she was brave and exceptional. The inner workings of Sophia that were given, simply didn't show this. As a result, Sophia felt like an object the other characters' shaped rather than a fully realized person. I don't need a character to be likeable, but it is important to me that they feel real.

This screams out for a film adaptation - think Stardust with a twist of The Handmaid's Tale with  a Black queer lead.
