Such an interesting and unique take on the fairytale.  I absolutely loved the plot twist near the end and how looking back it made a lot of sense.  There was a decent amount of queer representation with a lesbian MC, gay and queer secondary characters.  It’s a bit more angsty than I would normally read but I’m glad I read it and am happy to note the ending is a Happily Ever After… just a little more violent.  Though I will say after reading a few reviews it would have been interesting to have a chapter with Cinderella’s POV sprinkled in somewhere.

Great take on Cinderella story, taking a darker route. The book includes modern topics like LGBTQ. I also sensed characters emotions.

I would have loved to see more detail like pov of what happened to different characters in certain situations. I also felt some scenes were rushed, unnecessary scenes were also added.

The beginning was certainly a little slow.
I think the author probably wanted to get the initial world building out of the way quickly, as is common in fantasy books, however I really do think it was quite rushed.
A main theme of the book was the oppression of women and extreme misogynistic practices, and though every way the author showed this is a reality for some in real life, it was laid on pretty heavily at the beginning to get the point across that this is A Bad Land and Not Good. I almost thought it was a bit much.

The story really sets in when Sophia finally runs away and meets Constance, from there I can only say the story got better. I loved the whole concept. From a dictator who has manipulated his people for years to all the lies of Cindarellas story finally revealed I was enraptured.
This book was hard hitting, especially when describing the disgusting treatment of girls. So this book definately deserved the happy ending it got.

All in all a strong story about bravery and standing up for what is right, however it certainly doesn't surpass 2 stars for me in terms of writing. I have given better books only 3 stars, so I'm afraid it doesn't deserve that level.
