2/5 stars but I didn’t exactly finish it...

That was so boring. So boring. I really like John Greens novels and Looking for Alaska is defiantly my favourite. But I do think sometimes every single one of John Greens male protagonists are the same. Some weedy overly intelligent brainy white guy that is annoying somehow becomes Brad Pitt to women. How? They have nothing going for them and I don’t mean that in a mean way but they don’t even have a personality apart from being intelligent. That’s it. How does he even get 19 Katherines in the first place? Money maybe this guy is rich? But that’s about it.

I really like John Greens writing style and I do find it charming and humorous. But who was this for exactly? Who was the target demographic? It was just overly wordy and the plot was boring with boring characters. Just some white guy and his friend going on a road trip while he cries about being dumped. Not for me sorry...

Cute! 3 1/2 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Not his best book, but very light and enjoyable.
I’ll save my real thoughts for book club!

This was my first John Green book and honestly I’m very disappointed. This book was bland. The characters had no real personalities and the story just seemed to be thrown together in hopes that it would work. I had to read a couple pages, put it down and then try again later to get it done which has never happened with a 215 paged book. I really hope his other stories aren’t as disappointing because I have a few on my shelf.

Hassan’s character was overdone with the constant need to be lazy and the funny side kick whereas Colin was boring as all hell and just whined too much for my liking. Lindsey was the most basic pick me girl character I’ve read to date.

This story seemed like it was just going through the motions. The ending was predictable based on the title alone and the plot was 'by the YA playbook' the entire way. I wish it were more, because it was fun at times and the characters interesting. It could have gone further.

2.5 stars.
I really, really wanted to like this book. It was had some funny and definitely had it's moments. And despite the fact that most people who dislike this book seemed to be annoyed endlessly by Colin, I liked him. I even found I could relate to him in obscure ways. I like to try and logic on things that can't always be explained logically. I also am very goal-orientated and hard on myself.

Despite all the individual things I liked about the book, I just couldn't like the book as a whole. I found most of the characters, besides Colin dull. Hassan was pure comic relief (which I admit was amusing at times). He didn't seem to have much about him besides being fat, Muslim and lazy. TOC had no depth at all.His cheating just seemed to move the plot along, same with Katrina.

Another thing that really frustrated me was John Green's tendency to overstate the main message of the novel instead of letting the reader figuring it out. As many people have also stated, John Green seems to be lacking in orginality and his books seem to follow the formula: boy/girl is troubled, boy meets girl, boy and girl have a deep talk and fall in love and are happy.

It was really predictable, but I liked the added annotations.
