I listened to the English audiobook version. This is a great book packed with accessible useful information for the non-expert. I found it fascinating and will be dipping back in to listen to key areas again
An interesting read, with lots of nuggets about how the gut works (or may work, as a lot of this is only just being researched). The writing style was conversational, but maybe a little scatty for my liking.
Clear information on how the gut works and intriguing suggestions of the links between body and mind.
I guess you need to be interested in the subject to start with, which I am, and able to get through chapters about some pretty unpleasant bodily functions, but this is a fascinating, easy-to-read, and often jolly funny book about what goes on in our bodies that for the main part we are unaware of. I felt I knew a lot about this subject but I learned a great deal more from Gut. Giulia Enders has a great light, friendly, almost personal style that's a pleasure to read. If it's a subject you're keen to know more about this is the book I'd recommend.
Underwhelming to be honest. Nothing I didn't learn in high school biology. Tone was kind of condescending but I don't think it was on purpose.
A wonderful, fascinating read, which is important and relevant to anyone who cares about their health. The writing style is easily to accessible to all and very entertaining. I can't recommend this book enough, do yourself a favour and read it.
Ihanan kansantajuinen kirja meidän toisista aivoistamme, eli suolistosta.
Fascinating and informative. This was perhaps not the best book to read immediately after the Christmas period excesses; all kinds of hypochondria ensued.
A generally entertaining introduction to our gut!
If you're at all interested in the workings of your digestive system I recommend picking this book up. It does a wonderfully comprehensive overview of the entire process and about some of the crazy things we're learning about how the gut can affect everything from our immune system to our moods.
My only real complaint with the book was the childish metaphors used to make everything more fun and palatable for a general audience. For the most part these were fine (or even quite fun) but many of them felt forced, and a few of them I had to read multiple times to try and figure out what the author was actually trying to say. They can be helpful, but they are frequently overused. Still, don't let that prevent you from pickup up the book. The information is solid and a very good way to introduce yourself to the subject of the gut!
That said, if you're already somewhat well read on this subject you'll probably find the book to be a touch shallow. This is what I would call a fantastic entry level book. It's enough to let you understand the basics without reading anything else, but there's a good chance you'll find yourself digging a bit deeper later on.
