informative medium-paced

I’ve been reading this book since December so it’s not a quick read cover to cover to say the least. Deff learned some fun facts but the way it was written was annoying at times. Cute illustrations though!

Highly recommend! Why?
1. It is an enjoyable read. Even though I studied microbes and enjoy reading about them, Enders leaves out technical jargon and yet the juicy details are retained. Really interesting and helpful bits merging microbiology and physiology.
2. The general public needs to read books like this, as the pandemic of 2020 has shown us that the general knowledge of science and our bodies is quite low and prone to be highjacked by making political what is a health concern. We must know the difference between bacteria and viruses, and in this case, how bacteria specifically affect us and everything around us.

A lot of neat information about how our microbiomes (second gut brain) influence everything from our blood types to the way we feel later in life (depression, low mood, etc). All of this easily aided by our food choices, and how we “garden” our internal “flora”.

If you are interested in more microbe related reads/films. I also suggest:

Kiss The Ground (documentary on Netflix about microbes in the soil)

The mind-gut connection by Emeran-Mayer

Coral Reefs in the Microbial Seas by Forest Rohwer and Merry Youle

This book made me hungry XD, for good, colorful, healthy foods and spices!

This was a funny way to learn about the digestive system, though I much prefer Mary Roach's take on it.

Really fun and informative book. Also a very casual book, which gives readers a general view on the human digestive system. Gleaned lots of small nuggets of trivia from it. Super fun.

I loved this book! It’s a fun, enthusiastic introduction to how the gut works.

Interesting facts but didn't love writing style. 3 1/2

Loved this, mainly because it’s come at a time where I’ve had chronic gut issues which, in the space of a week following the Netflix doc Enders appears in, have massively subsided thanks to the access to albeit very basic nutritional knowledge I was never properly inducted with. Instead of hating my guts I’ve been fascinated by them and am treating them with a little more respect. Realising I might having been washing my clothes and dishes wrong was also a bonus.
