I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I read one of her other series, Lazy girl's guide to Magic and liked it as well. The characters are well done and I liked the plot. There was I felt one hole that is kind of dumb, which is why this is more like 4 1/2 than 5, but if you ignore it, the rest is worth the time. I wish there were more than 3 books in the series. I'm going to have to take a close look at the rest of her books. I do like her style.

This story keeps you on edge from beginning to end. Emma is a strong female lead who does some great police work. I really enjoyed it!

I dont even need to read the book to guess what Emma really is, it’s so obvious lol
That being said, this still had been a fun read that kept me turning the pages. Will read the next book soon!

Another case of owning the ebook, but I really like the sound of the audiobook. Too many formats eating away at my checkbook!
Pretty average Urban Fantasy. Great comfort read. Twist and narrator make me want to rate this higher! Will reflect.

I put it down like a month ago and didn’t ever pick it up again. Unremarkable.

Emma is a young detective, what a great idea with a book. I enjoyed the mystery and storytelling in this book. I liked the character of Emma. This book had me wanting to read on and find out more. I loved the supernatural aspect of the book. Some very unique ideas and I like the twists, a little quirkiness, and surprises. Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. *This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGAlley and I provided this voluntary review.*
Brimstone Bound Firebrand Book 1 is twisty and turny just the way i like em. One night Emma Bellamy is brutally killed and then awakes a few hours later. Along the way several werewolves go missing and a vampire stats following her. Can Emma solve her murder and the other things going on before death comes after her once and for all.
I received an ARC of Brimstone Bound from #BookBuzz.net through #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Brimstone Bound is an Urban Fantasy set in London, England that lays out an alternate world where vampires and werewolves love amongst humans.
The story, set in first person, follows police trainee Emma Bellamy when she is sent to finish her training with the Supernatural Squad, an undesirable placement in her eyes. Within her first 24 hours there, she is murdered but comes back to life while in the morgue. While trying to solve her own murder, there’s a disappearance of two werewolves and the murder of someone she knows.
When I began this book, I was excited to read it. The blurb was intriguing, the cover was beautiful, and it was a supernatural/paranormal mystery. It ticked all the boxes for me!
The worldbuilding in this novel was great. I loved how Harper began the story by building a supernatural world into the London we know in this day. I thought that was an extremely different setting than I had seen before. I liked how Harper wove the worlds and rules of vampires and werewolves into the modern mundane world, giving each set of creatures a full backstory.
Unfortunately for me, this book fell a little flat. I didn't feel connected to the main character, Emma, because we didn't learn anything about her other than she was a police trainee, some sort of supernatural creature, and had a boyfriend who wanted to quell her dreams. I felt that the fact she took over an entire investigation, with no help from the other colleagues at Supe Squad to be a little unrealistic. I didn't think someone who was a trainee would feel confident to take over an investigation, especially when senior colleagues were involved.
The ending was truly shocking. I didn't expect it at all; however, the reasons given were weird. I felt that it, again, was unrealistic. However, it did have the shock factor that makes a good mystery. I felt myself wanting to know more as I read the book! I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed, which I loved.
Overall, I will give this book 3 stars. The world building was great and it had the perfect shock value. But, for me there was no connection to the characters and at times felt unrealistic

Stumbled on this book on Hoopla and took a chance and listened to it. I really enjoyed it. I especially loved that the world was nearly identical to our own but included supernaturals. The mystery left me guessing the whole time, which I enjoy. The ending was a little weak but overall good enough that I immediately started the second book.
