I went into this with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Even if it was a little predictable, all of the plot points were there and addressed.
Emma is about to finish the last two weeks of her police department training. She has done exceedingly well and expects her next rotation to be in the cyber crime unit, only she ends up assigned to the supernatural squad. The tale that unfolds leads to murder and enlightenment.
Emma knows the basics of the supernatural world and has zero contact, so when she assigned to DC Anthony Brown she is in for some surprises. I loved the setup and how Harper allowed the listener to learn along with Emma. This made the world-building flow smoothly while we got to know the world and characters.
Unfortunately for Emma she ends up dead her first night on the job. She awakens…. yes awakens at the morgue to discover that not only is she alive but it seems her boss is missing and so are some werewolves. Oh, and a vampire is stalking her.
I liked Emma, who grabs the reins to hunt down a killer. She is feisty and has a thing for weapons. Lukas, a vampire, reminds me a bit of an old school detective. He balances out Emma’s personality and I am curious to see their relationship build.
The case was interesting with plenty of twists and the killer took me by surprise. We get closure to the mystery and Harper set up the series nicely.
Ruth Urquhart narrates and captured the voice of Emma and others perfectly. I enjoyed her accent and could listen at a lower speed since she naturally speaks fast. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Re-read now that the series is finished - I remember the general plot but not all the details.
Really cool Story with an badass heroine. I Loved that she was authentic and her actions and Feelings completely realistic.
I also Loved that there was No insta Love ....there was No Love at all really and No constant mentions of how hot Lukas is. So the Story really concentrated in the mystery and her detective Work.
I really Hope those two will end Up together later in but it won't be rushed :)

Very good and fun genre novel. Enjoyed every minute. I’m looking forward to reading more of the series.
Graphic: Death, Toxic relationship, Medical trauma
Moderate: Violence, Murder
The concept is interesting but I didn't feel hooked.
The mystery was fine I guess.
The world-building is ok but at the same time its more tell than show, so I still feel that there are some gaps that need to be filled.
I needed some time to warm up to Emma as a character, she is judgemental and stuck up in a sense. The most intriguing thing is her supe power.
I will continue with the second book, maybe I'll like it better.

Audiobook version
This was a very good book, though a bit short.
Emma is a young police detective and so, she is a bit naive... or maybe I'm just too suspicious, but then it's easier for us to see some things as a spectator. But her character is interesting and I like to see how she will evolved with time and crimes !
The only thing I think could have been better was people description. I would have like more for me to imagine every scene more clearly.
