Really enjoyed this book and happy it was on KU! The lead character is likeable and the mystery is interesting. The world-building is nothing special but that's OK; sometimes a bit of the familiar is good, too. It's well-written. The writing flows smoothly and it was an easy, interesting read. Recommended for urban fantasy fans.

This is the first book in a new series by an author I really like. As with a book with these conditions, I eagerly started it. I liked the beginning, but it seemed a little slow…until Emma dies. Then the book becomes spectacular. I loved all the characters even though the identity of one didn’t really surprise me. LOL! What did surprise me was the solving of the mystery. I was absolutely shocked by who the bad guy is. I wasn’t too convinced of the reason as it seemed a little too strange, but I was thrown. This was an excellent series started, and I’m definitely eager to read the next one. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This book really took me by surprise!!! I enjoyed it a lot. It was fantasy with so much mystery. Not necessarily a thriller but it kept you guessing!! I think the world building was easy to follow and the characters are minimal but seem to be setting up for the next book. I’m excited to read more of these. Also.. Lukas >>

Ugh this book was so good, a detective case I couldn't solve until she found the hints. It was a wonderful thing to be kept in the dark and learn along with her. Be shocked right along with her.
However.... do you see this cover? I knew opening the book that she was a pheonix but as of the end of this book, she and everyone else still doesn't know what she is. Like wtf? If you don't want us to know why did you show us?
Idk if I will continue the next book because there was ALOT of pointless information in this book into "guessing" on if she's a supe and what she is and it made me want to smack my head against the damn wall. With the "hints" that are given and that damn cover I KNOW what she is just figure it out already and lets find out what your truly capable of instead of pretending to be human. Fuck it's annoying.
