I have started and abandoned a lot, A LOT, of urban fantasy duds recently. Very exciting to find a new-to-me one that was quite readable. A bit 2-dimensional and a head scratching ending but great plot and fun works, looking forward to reading the next.

I started listening to the story on audible and found the British accents refreshing, even though it took me a while to get used to it. The story itself was different and I loved the fact that there was magical realism embedded within the story.
Not my first book I have listened to by Helen, really liked it. I am hoping this series stays exciting and fun.
I picked up Brimstone Bound in the Audible Flash Sale. It was ok. I found the heroine, Emma, too.... "hall monitor" for me to like her. The story didn't exactly reinvent the wheel and the ending was silly and made no sense.
I never know quite what to expect with Helen Harper - sometimes her series' are terrific and sometimes just okay. Happily, this series is starting out well! I like the MC (although I hope she learns what sort of sup she is soon) and the plot action is compelling.
Unfortunately the mystery was a little weak and I thought the motive(s) were pretty wimpy for the crimes that had been committed.
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book.
