The very best memoir I’ve ever read.

LUUURVE me a good memoir! This was great. I’ve always liked Will Smith, so this was totally fascinating to read about his life and his reflections on his choices.
adventurous emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted reflective medium-paced

Absolutely outstanding memoir. Will Smith does an amazing job narrating the audiobook. I love the pacing and the detail and the heart. I feel like I know him now.
slow-paced

Overall, it was a decent read, but I was so glad when it was finally over. A memoir or autobiography shouldn’t make you like someone less, but it did here. I always liked Will as a TV and movie star, but he appeared extremely arrogant in this one. He repeatedly reminded us of how famous he is. He kept saying, “I’m the biggest movie star in the world”. And I cringed every time he said it.

I also didn’t like the way he treated women (especially his wives), his family, or his fans. And I think he wanted the reader to sympathize with him. The book was enjoyable, but I think it was too early for him to write a book. Seems like he needs a little more self-reflection. I think he was really being honest, but this was too soon. I used to think Jada was the problem, but no, she’s the victim. By the end, I was exhausted. Sorry, Will, but I couldn’t get jiggy with this.

relistening to this makes me want to listen to jada pinkett smith’s audiobook

Great job Will! I have to say, I was swaying between a 4 and 5 for this one, and I probably would land on 4.5 if that was a possibility, but since it is not I will go ahead and give the 5. I think the fact that I listened to it, narrated by Will, it sounded like I was just listening to someone tell me stories. Will is and feels familiar. Maybe because I grew up with the Fresh Prince or maybe because he's just a real person. I mean, real x100, but still real. His stories and experiences seem genuine. He's the same charasmatic, optimistic, happy guy he shows up as, but seeing his own mind sometimes attacking the outside happy persona was interesting. The only reason I would take off about .5 of a star would be that in the last third of the book there was just a little too much of I'm the best there is, world renowned, superstar. He said it so many times I was a little like, oh man Will, now you sound a little full of yourself. But then again this is what he knows and presents and is, so can't fault him too much. Still, I would have dialled that back a little more. Like, we know Will! Otherwise, I thought it was a very interesting read/listen. Especially everything leading up to the Fresh Prince show years. I found it captivating. He told it well.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this on Audible.

This was great — had really good quotes, advice and stories. The reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating was due to the fact some chapters or parts weren’t as gripping (especially some early chapters) and some of the new-age kinda stuff near the end. But all in all, highly enjoyed this one.

Funny, insightful, inspiring, and emotional; this book is a good look into a really impressive person and how he dealt with fame and paths it led him down.

I recommend it for anyone interested in Will Smith (rapper, action, movie star). Also anyone look for inspiration on greatness from lowly beginnings.
