I give this comic book a 3/5 rating.

Objectively speaking, it is not a bad Sherlock Holmes story! Sherlock and Watson themselves are very likable, as are Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson.  The plot is a fairly traditional 'Sherlock Holmes seems to have committed a murder and has to work with a distraught Watson to prove his innocence', which is typically not my thing.  It also caters to an audience that just isn't me, and that's okay!

The story and dialogue felt a bit dated, leaning into the bigotry of the era (sexism, anti-Irish, etc), which felt unnecessary to the plot.

Overall, it's a fine comic. I'm glad I gave it a try, but I didn't feel the need to finish it since I could guess the ending and didn't feel that invested in the story.

Eh? There’s a lot of running around and escapes from prison, but it’s not made very clear whodunnit or whydunnit.

Pretty good graphic representation of an original Sherlock Holmes tale. Captured the grit and grime of 19th century London but fell a little short with the ending.

Fans of both graphic novels and Sherlock Holmes will applaud this fine effort!

Sherlock Holmes' England is under attack as anarchists fire bomb a factory in London. When former Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard, Sir Samuel Henry, gravely ill in his bed, received a bizarre, threatening letter from the anarchists claiming responsibility for the bombing and suggesting that they would murder him in his bed at precisely 7:00 p.m. the next day, the current Commissioner acted swiftly. A number of officers were posted throughout Henry's home as guards and, at Sir Henry's request, Sherlock Holmes and Watson attended personally as well. At 6:50 p.m. precisely, Holmes entered Henry's bedroom to personally ensure the ill man's safety. At 7:00 p.m., a shot rang out and officers barging into Henry's bedroom were shocked to discover a stunned Holmes, smoking revolver in hand, standing over the murdered and quite dead Murphy. Holmes, to the incredulous dismay of Watson and their long-time professional colleague, Inspector Lestrade, is charged with first degree capital murder and faces execution.

Leah Moore's and John Reppion's brilliant locked room mystery, complemented by Aaron Campbell's superb, deeply atmospheric artistic renderings, is a welcome and honourable addition to the very crowded universe of post Conan Doyle Sherlockian mysteries. The story line, while completely true to the Victorian sensibilities that the world has reasonably come to expect out of the best quality Holmes mysteries, has a very fresh and unique modern flavour that involves some very Machiavellian international espionage. No satire, no parody, no pastiche and certainly no mere adaptation, this is a very original story that will thrill long time Holmes readers. I'm also certain that fans of graphic novels reading this and encountering Sherlock Holmes for the first time will dashing to the book store seeking out Conan Doyle's original mysteries as well.

Highly recommended.

I thought the Sherlock Holmes case presented in this book was good. The problem was the interior art was very lackluster. Also, I get it for aesthetics and for authenticity, but please don’t write cursive in your writing because I can’t read it

My earlier review suddenly disappeared, so I shall try this again.

The story is good enough, I suppose. We see actions taken by various individuals that all seem to be leading to Sherlock Holmes being put on trial for murder.

I found the artwork dirty and wasn't able sometimes to determine which character was being portrayed on my page without checking the previous panels and the conversational bubbles. That seems to be standard with Dynamite. I prefer a cleaner line.

There are some pluses, including a story written out in the back as well as an article on the appearance of Holmes in comics and graphic novels. 3 out of 5.

I wasn't a super fan of the illustration style, but the plot of Holmes being framed for murder was fantastic.

Very good! Watson isn't hot though. Oh well. Hmm. I've just realized that I judge most Sherlock Holmes pastiches by how much I want to bonk the watson. I think this is a very good method.
