This really did not feel like a children’s/middle grade book! It was very mature and excellently written. Justina Ireland writes ‘her’ characters of Vern and Avon absolutely impeccably.

Much like the previous middle grade books, Mission to Disaster helps flesh out some characters and timeline events that are important to The Fallen Star. While not necessary to understand it, I believe this story in particular helps to flesh out some important aspects of the overall High Republic era, such as: Small planets and their response to the Nihil (which can be seen in comics as well), the cruelty of the Nihil (not lost to us from other books but was reinforced in a very well written way here), as well as fleshing out some key charactes, especially for later books, acquainting you with knowledge that might or might not be helpful in future books!

"The closest we ever come to being truly one with the Force is when we’re working to help make the galaxy a better place for everyone."
Although the hardcover isn’t supposed to be released until March, luckily the ebook is already out for us HR fans to read! Mission to Disaster by Justina Ireland focuses on the duo of Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh and Padawan Imri Cantaros, and also that of the small genius we met previously in Justina’s A Test of Courage Avon Starros. After one of Vernestra’s force visions occur, detailing Avon in deep trouble with the Nihil, her and Imri head back to Port Haileap and to the small planet of Dalna, where things aren’t quite what the locals want it to seem.
Justina Ireland has created some of my favorite characters in this series, and the love for her characters is obvious, flowing off the pages. The pacing was better compared to ATOC, and after knowing these characters for a year, it helped raised the stakes while reading. I can't wait to see what Justina has in store for us in the next phase!

I love the High Republic books, and especially any book with Vernestra Rwoh and Imri Cantaros. They are so well rounded, such great characters.
This is another great story of these two characters, and we find again Avon Starros and her droid J-6.

Justina Ireland really knows how to match middle grade fiction with the GFFA. This is great for readers of any age.
I loved getting to see Vern and Imri and Avon again. Those three are my favourite teen characters in this era and they always shine. Even separated, they each gave the story their little bit of strength and made it better. I wish we’d gotten more of Imri, since once he made it to Starlight he became more of a background character compared to Vern and Avon, but it was still good.
Even knowing what happens to Starlight, this had enough buildup to get me worried 😅
