DID NOT FINISH

The premise sounded so promising but the writing style felt so juvenile that I didn't make it far. DNF

The pacing wasn’t what I liked. Things happened but it felt drawn out at parts. I read this book for a long time, and it’s not a very long book.

Fantasy adventure that’s bold, heartfelt, and unafraid to chart new waters.

The title says it all—this book throws you headfirst into a rowdy band of rogues on the high seas, weaving together magic, intrigue, and self-discovery against the backdrop of colonial conflict. It’s a story that’s as thrilling as it is thoughtful.

What truly makes this book shine is its characters. Told through alternating POVs, the narrative gives each voice space to grow, stumble, and shine in their own right. Their perspectives create a rich, layered world that feels lived-in and emotionally real.

If you’re seeking LGBTQ-friendly fantasy, this tale stands tall with inclusive storytelling, depth, and admirable life lessons. One of the protagonists’ journey with gender is especially moving.

This could have been an even more epic saga, but I feel it was definitely condensed into more of a YA style novel (even though I definitely enjoyed it as an adult!). Some of the ending was a little rushed, but I still appreciate that it was a fulfilling ending.
