This had more of the telepathic blue foxes so of course it was a win.

Sea Sparrow is about the half sister of Bitter Blue, the main character from one of the earlier books, who has tons of trauma and copes with it by vanishing. They get shipwrecked in the frozen north and have to survive. This was, I think, hearkening back to the first book of the series, Graceling, but for some reason it dragged on for me. Perhaps because the MC is much less likeable than Katsa… It wasn’t bad, per se, but not my favorite of the series.
Ah, this book was hard going. Mostly because Hava is such a prickly character. And of course, she has suffered much and is growing into her own.
I love Linny and the foxes and all the side characters.
I particularly enjoyed how so much of this book is internal even as so many external influences happen.
I’m rambling. The book is good. Read it.

Possibly my favorite book in the series, which is weird to say because I have given all of them 5 stars. This is a very different read from any of the other books, since it's in first person, which seemed extra notable after the last book had so many different (3rd person) perspectives in it. I loved getting to know more about Hava, who has been such a mysterious presence in the last few books, and I love the foxes so, so much. Once again, I'm not sure if this is the final book in the series. It definitely feels like an ending, but I do know that if there are more, I will read them.

I should know by now to just trust that no matter who or what a book is about, Kristin Cashore will make me care about. Went in expecting a ‘meh’ read, got an incredible one.
I love Graceling. I adored Fire and Bitterblue. I thoroughly enjoyed Winterkeep. I read the description for this and went “honestly not sure I’m going to enjoy this one at all” - I didn’t feel (prior to this book) particularly interested in or connected to Hava, and I wondered how the plot would keep me interested if the whole thing was happening on a boat. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I don’t know how Kristin Cashore does what she does, but I was completely and utterly entranced by this story. By the plot, by the worldbuilding, by Hava’s inner monologue, by every single character, even the ones meant to be minor. It was gut wrenching and terrifying and hopeful and thought provoking. Just like the other Graceling realms books, this one gets a solid 5 stars and a permanent spot on my bookshelf.
