I didnt hate the book it just seemed to prattle on forever with a barely audible plot. The plot is pretty much the wizards got into the forest.
I liked the cats at first, but I really didnt care about all 9 of them. It got old by chapter like, 2. Killer can fall in a well he is the most stupid, pointless character in all fiction.
It also seemed like the author was bored writing this. And her editor was like okay thats enough, just wrap it up. So the next page is like "so yeah they just say there waiting for 2 months. Everyone did the stuff they needed to, and now we're all just waiting. "

Unusually open ended which was fascinating and I have to get the third book somehow!
Well reading the books in chronological and not published order, I have to say that was a very involved and yet delightful explanation of "What kind of a person became the mother who raised a boy like Daystar?"
As a side note, I've always had a soft spot for books whose chapters are in the format "Chapter X: in which Something Happens." They just feel so quaint.

I like having new characters brought in, and new creatures. A fire witch is such an interesting character. I imagine them with southern accents. I didn’t much care for Killer, but I thoroughly enjoyed the cats.
More of a 3.5?
I agree with other reviews saying Killer is annoying and his antics get old. I listened to most of it on an audiobook, and the voice actor is amazing, he sounded so annoying! So I noticed it a lot more than I would have if I read it straight through.
I adore cats, so I enjoy the cat dialogues, and their mannerisms is on point!

Morwen is one of my favorite characters in the series, so I'm sad this is my least favorite of the three. Killer and the pacing around the main plot were just too slow for this one to hold my interest the same way. It took me much longer than it did to read the other two. I'm still excited for book 4, but I'm going to take a little break in between
