I'm not quite sure exactly what I expected from The Midnight Library, but I know that the book itself didn't quite hit the mark I was wanting it too. I was hoping for a feeling closer to The Starless Sea, which it most certainly was not. This isn't the book's fault, it isn't a *bad* book, it's just not really my thing. The first half of the book was alright, it was cool to see all the different lives Nora could have lived, but I felt like the conclusion,
that her root life was the only life she could be happy in, was a rather obvious one, as soon as she mentioned that she felt like an outsider and imposter in every other life she tried. I did get a little emotional during the ending, it was nice to see Nora finally experience some form of happiness that was hers alone, but I still think it could've been better.
All in all a decent book, but definite trigger warnings for self harm and suicide, as well as death and substance abuse.

Too straightforwardly corny for me and emotionally manipulative the way it
kills people off in the AUs via butterfly effect.

But the short chapters are like crack for my bad attention span brain, I'll give it that.

It took me a while to get into this book but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I found some of the language and dialogue quite… stiff - that really took me out of the story. I also felt like I was reading a self help book or being lectured at times which I didn’t love, that’s not to say the book didn’t have a good message - it just seemed a too obvious. Despite all that, I laughed and sobbed so Matt Haig clearly did something right!

i absolutely loved this book. while the ending was kind of predictable, the story itself is very inspiring and important for everyone to read, especially those struggling with mental health.

I might love this sub-genre of people finding life is okay. Through some philosophical lessons, a bit of magic realism and a heartwarming lesson the Midnight Library is just one of those books who gives hope and perspective to everyone who goes through its pages.
