I adore Jasper Fforde’s humour and creativity but I didn’t like this book nearly as much as Early Riser. I’m still excited to read his other books though!
I was plodding along in this book, not quite hooked, though I was enjoying some of the social commentary. Then all of a sudden, maybe 2/3 of the way through, it got super exciting and I just had to finish. Now I have to read the next book in the series!
Except... I just realized there are supposed to be two more books and they don't exist. Incomplete story. That's what I deserve for not checking on the series completion BEFORE starting the first book.

"There are NO unanswered questions of any relevance. Every question that we need to ask has been answered fully. If you can't find the correct answer, then you are obviously asking the wrong question" (185).

That was actually shockingly good. It's got the whimsical humor of Hitchhiker's mixed with the dystopian world of the Giver. I actually quite enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for something lighthearted, unique, and slightly funny.
I’d asked for the second as a birthday present before I knew a first one existed already. Loved it as I love all his books. I’m starting the next one as soon as it arrives.

Probably closer to 4 than 5 stars on reread, but I'm sentimentally letting it keep the old rating..... I loved this book in a big way as a tween!! Fforde's bonkers humour just works for me, I don't know. I'm just glad the reread held up. So excited that book 2 has come out, can we believe, after 15 years.....
