Smart, elegant and haunting. Existing in that dream space between genre and literary. Highly recommended.

This book is about community. This book is about perspective. This book feels like it is also about the parallel universes that exist not only across timelines, but also across individuals within the same universe, within the same story.

Each perspective in this book held up a mirror to the others. Some of those mirrors were direct reflections— characters who were honoring, committed to, ready for community. Others deflected us as the reader— characters who showed us what might lead someone to an un-readiness, or hesitance around being connected to the community that Turnbull is weaving across timelines, across peoples, across these characters. I cannot wait to discover what these communities and perspectives will reflect to us as this series continues.

Consideration: If you are having trouble keeping up with the various perspectives, I must recommend the audiobook narrated beautifully by Dion Graham!

I always enjoy books that are set in the surrounding Boston area! I've lived here for the last 6 years and it's always so cool to see places I know in books. This book had really great political undertones and I loved how the author made the monsters just so normal. The writing was so well done as well.

I really wanted to like this book as the story sounded so interesting but the changing of pov every time just really made it not work for me. Besides that the writing was fine and the diversity really good.

The Convergence Saga This literary series unfolds as a captivating masterpiece, exhibiting a rare dynamism that has been absent from my recent reading endeavors. The eloquence of the writing is both beautiful and intricate, crafting a complex and fantastical tapestry that remains remarkably relatable. The narrative seamlessly weaves together diverse worlds and creatures, establishing a secret realm that subtly underlies our reality. Beyond surface appearances, it delves into themes ranging from police brutality to familial bonds, shedding light on monsters that exist not only in the tangible world but also in the realms beyond. In essence, the series presents a profound and thought-provoking journey that left a lasting impression on my literary palate.

A significant thematic undercurrent that deeply resonated with me was the exploration of substance abuse and mental health. The portrayal of Lania’s brother, Lincoln, who tragically falls victim to the Boston Police in the first book, is a heartbreakingly honest and visceral depiction of his struggles. The narrative unravels the intricacies of his mental state, offering a poignant insight into why he sought solace in substances. This theme adds a layer of depth to the series, addressing the complexities of personal demons and the pursuit of inner peace with a genuine and empathetic touch.

Moreover, the pervasive theme of relationships in the series is another standout element. The narrative skillfully navigates romantic, platonic, and familial connections, providing a rich exploration of diverse relationships. Notably, the inclusion of various queer representations contributes to the series’ authenticity, showcasing the vast spectrum of how individuals forge meaningful bonds. The exploration of complex dynamics within relationships, coupled with interactions involving law enforcement and family members, adds a layer of depth and realism to the narrative. This overarching focus on relationships, presented in a multifaceted manner, further enhances my appreciation for the series as a whole. Thank you @hearourvoicestours for letting me be a part of this wonderful tour and for the amazing audiobooks!

Absolutely loved the writing! I found it a little hard to keep track of things (characters mostly), but that might be a personal problem.

Luminous yet dark, visionary, unsettling, and so transporting in a time when I really needed some transporting.

Has a Goon-Squad-esque approach to the story (vignettes of different intersecting characters that can each almost stand on their own as short stories) but somehow does so such that the reading experience still reads more like a novel (which it is). Obvious metaphors to contemporary issues (trans rights, misinformation) but not overly beholden to these metaphors - the characters and their story stays primary.

It is likely to frustrate some people, because it also takes a Southern-Reach-like approach to intentional incomprehensibility, for the characters themselves are perplexed - but it does so in a much more lucid and comprehensible way than that trilogy did.

Also, I might be biased because this is a book about monsters as metaphors for contemporary challenges that also has a long segment on bee metaphors for our collective selves and a community-driven perspective rather than an individualistic one, so.

Can't wait to read more from this author.
