Really interesting read. Similar to Legendborn, it has European folklore running up against our current sociopolitical world, especially in terms of what Black people in the US face (a police shooting of a Black man/“monster”, the collective whitewashing in the media, who is and isn’t considered a monster, etc etc). The mystery that ties the whole story together is a bit unwieldy and doesn’t quite pay off in a satisfying way (that “oh, I’m definitely planning a sequel” sort of ending which drives me nuts).

This book had me really engaged but the ending felt abrupt and left too many stones unturned. A very ambitious book with lots of cool ideas going around, just wish it ended a little neater
