My final review is real real similar to my mid-read update: This is just a rehash of her anti-diet culture line of books without much new thinking. At 75% through, she starts talking more explicitly about burnout and exhaustion, and this primarily comes as lists of reasons and ways one may feel burned or tired. While these can be illuminating or validating to some, the whole book felt like a cheap attempt to sell another book without doing more work. (And even if you're project is 'resting,' you don't get to slang critical life advice without being thoughtful.)
This book ENDS with her saying she's about to start her 2 years of rest, so rather than being a summation of her lessons, it's a lead-up to how she got there -- all through the, again, the lenses she's already hit in her anti-diet products. IDK. Not feeling it.

I didn't read her "F*ck it Diet" or whatever but so far this feels like a rehash of whatever she did there -- super focused on the traumas of dieting/diet culture (told via memoir). Every few paragraphs she remembers to bring it back: 'oh, right- rest! rest would be healthier than low carb.' But it feels like she's trying to break into a different area of anti-self help market w/ out actually doing much new thinking."

i wanted to like this book, but it should be more clearly marketed as a memoir of diet culture burnout & trauma, not a prescriptive how-to book. i might have enjoyed it if i'd expected something different.

The second half of this memoir was more interesting than the first. It goes on for awhile about all of Caroline’s negative experiences and negative self-view and that was very hard and tiring to read about. The second half going into broader generalizations on stress and health was more interesting, so my feelings at the end were that I liked the read overall.
