Whew! That was even more of a ride than I was expecting. Mr. Deaver has a way of keeping you on your toes. I dive into the book, knowing that this is the case, watching for his tricks, and still he catches me off guard. He has you looking in one direction, then pivots you around; just when you get used to that, he pivots you back in the direction you were looking in the first place. It's a wild ride and I LOVED it.

I could name a few minor things about the book that seemed different and a bit disconcerting, but, really, they don't matter. I was grinning during a lot of the book and it takes a lot to get a reaction out of me. Did I mention that I loved it?

I do, however, have to ask one question... Am I the only one who, upon setting the book down, gets startled EVERY time by the face staring intently at me from the back cover? I truly think he does this on purpose.

Deaver is back - 4*

I've missed Deaver's high-quality writing! Maybe [b:The Kill Room|16051543|The Kill Room (Lincoln Rhyme, #10)|Jeffery Deaver|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1372773610s/16051543.jpg|21834552] was a blip but it had still done its damage, I lost my faith in the Lincoln Rhyme series. The twelfth book in the series has recaptured the ingenuity of Deaver's writing.

The only reason this book is not receiving 5 stars is because Sachs and Rhyme were separated - I was worried they were going to breakup, which isn't a position I ever want to be in again. This made me realise how dependent I am on this relationship; it is one of the critical elements of this series and if anything happens to them, I don't think I could cope. BUT THAT SURPRISE - YESSSSSS!!!!! It also annoyed me that the two cases were separated for 25% of the book and it was obvious it was the same case.

I was engrossed by the dangers of electric items and using these as murder weapons. There were so many possibilities and Deaver is a master of red herrings. I truly believed the cause but Deaver you're a magician and I loved every minute.

To the Burial Hour (#13)...

I was really excited for this one judging from the synopsis, and felt it was a bit of a let down.

Still good, as I love this series and Jeffery Deaver. But I just wasn't as hooked by this one as I was by many of the others so far. And I keep going back and forth on if I liked the addition of Juliette Archer or not.

Ready for the next!

Deaver’s Rhyme series on the whole has been very good and easily within a top 10 favorite series list. Steel Kiss is good but not among the best in the series. The book finishes generally very strong but felt a little disjointed in the beginning with regard to conflicts set between book 11 and this book 12. This episode introduces intern Juliet Archer as a new and positive addition to the recurring cast. This was a high 3 star book and recommended for mystery crime readers who enjoy the logical deductions involved in forensics.
