I had such high hopes for this novel as it was hyped on TikTok and had a plus-size heroine. I did appreciate that she was hot and knew it, she wasn't overly self-conscious and didn't address her size every other sentence like some plus-size heroine novels. That said, Birdie definitely seems sweet, but I wish the author had described her music in different ways, it was difficult to picture what kind of musician she was and how she got there, I wanted back story and detail and I felt that lacked a bit. Liam wasn't my favorite and I felt that the spice was pretty standard, nothing special. I felt like the stalker could have been handled better, like leaving her alone on the bus? No. There should have been a few bodyguards, not just one so they could trade off shifts, etc. It didn't feel practical in the handling and those gaps in logic ruined it for me.

DNF

I’ve never posted a negative review before. Normally I just delete the book from my completed shelf and try to forget about it.

Let’s face it, the third act of all romcoms are tough… but, y’all, from 80% on I hated this book. It felt like a Lifetime movie that an older female relative would try to tell me about (against my will).

I honestly liked the two main characters. I feel like most people will be able to relate to their past, a la hometown best friends turned first love and first heartbreak. That’s the part that had me, the second chance at love with a strong, sassy MC. That’s the part that kept me going.

The fame + stalker aspects of the plot just fell apart though. Our ex-cop turned bodyguard did not Scooby Doo this shit right or he did but then (repeatedly) failed to act on his instincts and very bad things happened. Then, of course(!), he must end things with her because he failed to keep her safe—breaking both their hearts, again.

After that I just had to start skimming toward the heartfelt resolution, because I couldn’t and wouldn’t wallow along with the characters when I knew it wouldn’t last.

Ultimately, I feel like this author should’ve written a cute second chance at love story without the stalking, kidnapping, etc. OR stuck with that idea and written a grittier type of book.

DNF’d at 90%. cute book, loved the F main character’s spunk but M character’s reaction to the catalyst was too cliched for me. Not enough character development or depth. Just didn’t quite believe why he’d react in such a cliched way

Such a good read!

Let me start by saying overall I really enjoyed I Like You Like That, it was fun, steamy, and went by very fast. However, I have to knock it down a full star because of some things.

Let's start with what I did like.
1. The whole book is about a badass plus-size musician who has recently come into some issues involving a stalker. Her label hires a bodyguard for her and she is surprised to find it is her ex-best friend/crush whom she ended things with on very bad terms.
2. I loved the forced proximity and friends to enemies to lovers trope throughout the book that led to some fun times.

What I didn’t like about the book
1. Before the MC and FMC meet/reunite in the book, the MC has an off-page tryst with another woman. That’s already icky, but the fact that after the two MCs reunite and he becomes her bodyguard, said MC gets stressed and says he needs some relief. He then proceeds to briefly think about the OW before switching to the FMC instead. YUCK. It’s a personal preference but I don’t want to read a romance book with an MC who thinks about or gets with anyone other than the FMC.
2. I don’t hate third-act breakups, however, this one was so unnecessary. It was in the last 10% when everything in the plot has come to a boil and finished and then he just says he can’t handle things
