This did not deliver what I wanted it to. I hyped this up in my head too much I think idk. I spent the first half of the book annoying with Liam because I felt that he was unfair to Birdie. However they finally talked about the night that changed their friendship and things toom a turn for the good, I undertood where he was coming from. But as a girl who went through that same situation that Birdie did I was team Birdie all the way lol. Liam and her were cute once their relationship picked up but them the third act break up annoyed me because I hate the "I am leaving her for her own good" type of trope. ANYWAYS. There were redeeming parts of this. But I had anticiapted more I think idk. I loved Birdie though. I saw a lot of myself in Birdie and she was also just such a cool character. I will be reading the cowboy romance that came out from this author recently because ✨cowboys✨ but this was not my favorite read ever personally. The plot with the rockstar romance was good, just not the second chance part to me

I really wish I could say I liked this book. The plot was good & honestly the only reason I finished the book was to see who her stalker was. I don’t think I can express how much I loath Liam. It got to the point I was actively rooting for birdie to end up with literally anyone else. Liam’s mad at her because 10 years ago after he said some of the most vile things to her that she no longer wanted to be friends with him. So why does birdie apologize for knowing her worth and that she deserved better. Even after they meet again ten years later this dude is a massive dick. Also wren & Ben suck as birdies friends. I understand they didn’t really know what happened but when they find out what happened they’re still trying to get them together. If my friend told me what Liam said to birdie the last thing I’d do is make sure they end up together. Birdie’s need for therapy was brought up a few times & honestly she’s not the one who needs it. (She needs a better therapist if her therapist is cool with Liam btw) I love birdie. She is such a good character I genuinely enjoyed reading about her. Even if her biggest character flaw is her choice in men. But I feel like anyone would’ve been a better fit for her than Liam. Also there is a small part of me that is convinced nothing could justify what Liam said to birdie when she confessed to him, his reasoning being his dad was an alcoholic was probably the worst reason he ever could have said. I don’t care if he was projecting & felt like she was too good for him there was no reason for him to be so nasty about it. Him leaving after the stalking situation came to a head also proved to me he never will be good enough for her. He lies to her face about leaving without saying goodbye. He was going to ditch her without any word. The only reason he didn’t is because she caught him. Seriously I love a good flawed hero who grows to be a good partner but in my opinion he didn’t. This is one of those couples that I truly root for their relationship to end. Birdie deserves better.

This book was just okay for me, story wise. I love plus sized heroine representation, but the stalker thing was too weird for me (especially since it turned out to be her estranged dad and sister).

Spice factor:

Plus sized protagonists are my thing, so I was invested in Birdie and her story.

Pros: Plus size baddie doing her thing, moves on from teenage heartbreak and is able to reconnect with him as friends.

The love interest is a hottie with heart who is just bossy enough.

Some pretty short but steamy scenes with spice.

Cons: The repeated mention in the first chapter or so about various foods the protagonist plans to eat. Pizza, hamburgers...we get it, she's a big girl. As a fellow big girl, I'm not into the "she's fat so she obviously just thinks about food 24/7" narrative we start with.

The love interest being distracted by his "other brain" at like any opportunity, even when there are big emotions and real important shit going down. Naw.

The love interest leaves after they have everything figured out, with barely 10% of the book remaining, because he's spooked. Not a fan.

2.5

Kinda boring but I liked the second chance element, the leads were okay and the smut was okay too.

This originally was a 3 star book but the more I read, the more I really resonated with this book! It was so sweet the way these 2 came back together after a falling out when they were kids. Also the conflict in this book was handled age appropriately for people in their late 20s so I was vibing w that

I'm a sucker for a plus-sized heroine! This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I enjoyed every minute! I will definitely be checking out the authors other books, I fell in love with the writing style and can't wait to read more!

I usually don't like musician characters..I don't know why but I usually steer away from any "I'm in a band" characters but I quickly liked Birdie and oddly really identified with Liam.

I liked that there was more upset, confusion and uncertainty than some other novels of similar theme. I'd def read more of Kayla's books.

The throwback to MSN Messenger made me smile and how many "relationships" got botched
