I really enjoyed this. I was dubious after reading a few reviews here about potential triggers and the focus on weight etc but as a plus size person, I resonated with everything Savvy felt. I particularly enjoyed how descriptive the cooking parts were - the author definitely has a way with words that made me actually visualise what she was cooking!

Enjoyed the storyline and really enjoyed the friendships of the girls in the book!

This was refreshing. Taj McCoy tells a story about a woman who is blindsided my a selfish significant other and the choices she makes based on her knee jerk reaction to her pain. Savvy is surrounded by friends and family who love and support her. She’ll need that and more to come to the realization that peace is priceless.

Mediocre at best, but much more predictable. I didn’t read the summary, but could immediately tell the book was about the insecurity of a fluffy woman when she kissed her boyfriend who responded with, “I taste bacon on your breath”.

Overworked and under appreciated, but doesn’t know how to establish healthy work-life boundaries so she does EVERYONE else’s work to be seen as a team player; thickly portioned with exotic features, but insecure with her phenomenal beauty because her butt and thighs jiggle a little when she walks; consumed with the desire for love, but can’t love herself so instead she cooks for everyone in her path as a method of showing her affection. Overall, entertaining, if not overly simplistic.

I wanted to love this book. I was so excited that it was written by a debut author who it states is “committed to championing plus size Black stories.” That’s so beyond fabulous. So I was shocked at all the diet culture and fat phobia that was present in this book. Calorie counting, waistline watching, hard core working out, clean eating etc. and it was never portrayed as a bad thing. This was so disappointing and potentially triggering. Which is a shame because I loved Savvy, her friends, Spencer and her work issues.

I was provided an advanced copy of this book by the publisher which did not affect my honest review.

This book was about Savvy discovering that her life isn't as wonderful as she thinks it is. Especially after her long-term boyfriend dumps her in the most shallow and pretentious way ever.

Savvy decides she's going to change her life for the better and discovers, along the way, that even what she wants for herself may not bring her happiness. I loved following Savvy through her fitness journey to just get stronger and have more energy. I adored her boss and how he helps evolve her role to better fit her lifestyle and not force her to change completely for a promotion.

There was also a love story involved but I enjoyed how it wasn't the main focus of the book. The author made a point to display her ride-or-die relationship with her friends over Spencer, the super sexy contractor who Savvy thought was homeless. They mention this multiple times in the book and it kind of irked me a bit. Maybe because I live in a city with a high homeless population and I didn't think it was something to joke about(?). Don't let that deter you from reading this novel though. It's all about a woman doing the most to better herself when her life is falling around her and she kills it. Such a fun read.
