While this book was cute there were a couple things I didn’t particularly care for. Her ex is a horrible man that says horrible things, that’s the point and all but it’s stuff any of us fat girls have heard before and can be triggering because of that. I also didn’t care for how detailed the tennis parts got, in fact I just skimmed the last couple ones. The concept of her getting a “revenge body” went on longer than I hoped. Ultimately it is a cute book with the overall message of loving yourself as you are and doing what makes you happy.

Savvy Sheldon gives us a story of starting over, learning to be happy from within with some fabulous friends and a gorgeous man and his adorable Labrador.
Savvy is a do-it-all-by-myself type of personality. Taking care of her aging uncle, trying to find the means to renovate her grandmother's old house, and dealing with a heartbreak. What begins as a revenge plan, has Savvy meeting new friends with different outlooks on life. It was a treat seeing her character open up.
Spencer and Savvy's chemistry was was so darn cute - I would love to see that adapt on screen!
One thing I will say about this book, is that the story has been done before - the formula of a breakup + revenge = leads to self actualization of the main character...it didn't feel like I was getting anything new and I could already see where this book was headed before the half-point.
A cutesy read!

This would have been a five star read if it wasn't a romance. Savvy is such a delightful character and I love how supportive her friend group is. The majority of the book is actually a coming -into-oneself story as Savvy begins a self-improvement journey after being dumped by her boyfriend and having her self-esteem wrecked by his list of the flaws he perceived in her.
It was so nice how much her friends made sure she knew they loved her as she is but also supported her in wanting to change a little. I also enjoyed the sapphic rep between Savvy's friend Joan and Beth. As well, I loved seeing Savvy discover more about herself and what she wants in life + who she wants to be through her work in public health, her cooking, and getting back into tennis.
The romance was okay. I didn't really feel a strong connection to her love interest, Spencer. There were a few steamy scenes and they had some cute moments as he was helping her re-design her home and kitchen, but compared to other romances I feel there could have been a little more substance to his character.

Literally so embarrassed even as I type this because I love Taj McCoy and think she's the sweetest cutest nicest author but this book was not for me. It felt like a never ending loop of tennis (and/or yoga), cooking, and seeing Jason. There were such long descriptions of things I felt were unnecessary (She set up to hit the shot down the middle. It landed right at the service line. The next one came to her as a double-handed backhand. This one was a corner shot. etc etc etc the tennis especially made me zone out). Plus the insurance stuff was so boring?? There was a lot about underwriting that I didn't care about.
For the romance it was genuinely crazy to me that the blurb said "it turns out that the contractor [Savvy] hires is the same sexy stranger she unintentionally offended by judging based on appearances." That is an INSANE way to say she thought he was homeless?? Not to mention, it was a negligible offense in the end. He took it in stride and they laughed about it after meeting for real one time. I just thought there'd be more tension there.
I was pleased that Savvy was able to gain self-confidence by the end and even had the opportunity to turn down Jason. I'm glad she had Maggie and Kutter to keep her on track. But I just didn't really connect with her story. The best parts to me were the steamy scenes (and the UCLA references—go Bruins!). One thing I also liked and I think isn't shown a lot in stories was how Savvy rejected her promotion and hustle culture. Not everyone has to be on the grind all the time to be a success. I admired how she found balance with her romance, her personal life, her cooking, and her job.

I wanted to love this but I just liked it ok. The constant descriptions of tennis trainings were kinda boring and even though the cooking descriptions were delicious they read more like recipes than a novel. There was a last min miscommunication trope thrown in that wasn't necessary. And maybe I listen to too much Maintenance Phase but the focus on revenge body and looking good felt cringe. I liked Savvy and her friends though.
